'Twas such a little -- little boat
That toddled down the bay!
'Twas such a gallant -- gallant sea
That beckoned it away!

'Twas such a greedy, greedy wave
That licked it from the Coast --
Nor ever guessed the stately sails
My little craft was lost!

I found out about Emily Dickinson through American television and I love her work, I wish we studied her more in school. I might of loved poetry more.

Joan Alannah,
Any idea how the title relates to the poem?

Is this one of your favorites?
I don’t know her work really.

I particularly liked the little boat lured out to sea.

So embarassing but I just realised the title is wrong, The correct title is 'Twas such a little - little boat

No worries :) We all make mistakes.

I've been scratching my head trying to figure the poem out while it was under the wrong title. The best I could come up with was the word "craft" as in witchcraft and the persecution of women accused of being witches during the Middle Ages. Hence "My little craft was lost." But the poem still didn't fall into place.

Now it makes a whole lot more sense. Thanks for sharing it.
