The women who I believe is a counselor is an after school babysitter for her neighbor’s 3 children. The mother abuses them but they are too scared to say something. The neighbor figures it out eventually and adopts the 3 kids. I think that she falls in love with the cop that is working the case to prove that the children are being beaten and then her and the cop adopt the children in the end. Read in the last 1-2 years.
