Mystery set in France, children born with goats' feet.

In the 1980's I read a mystery fiction about a plot of land in France which was sold by an old French family, the sale of which brought a curse that their future children would be born with goats' feet. A party of campers spent the night on the land and were terrified by being overrun by a herd of goats (heard but unseen) in the night, who left hoofprints to be seen the next morning. The book was written by an Englishman who also wrote a series set in the South of France about an Englishman who ran a small hotel there, and the different mysteries arising from his guests. Any help very much appreciated.
