It´s happened (way) more than once that I borrowed a book from the library that I already own... Once or twice I also borrowed a book I knew I had, but couldn´t find (this was before we had new bookshelves this summer and our books stood in three rows behind each other...)

This also would happen to me quite frequently as well! I also try to use the Goodreads app when shopping for books but after running into some areas that don't have very good reception, I also started keeping lists on my phone, but of course couldn't just have one so I currently have three: Have to Read
Want to Read
Own and Read
This has literally been a lifesaver for me as I can easily keep track of what I have and move titles from one list to another. :)
Chinook wrote: "There is, I think, an easy way to add any kindle books you’ve bought through amazon at least."There is, the kindle actually prompts you to do it, I just can't remember how it shows up. Next time it happens I think I'll import everything.
So, I’m 100% sure I will end up reading books that I come across as options for next year before this year ends. I am, in fact, doing it already. 🤣🤣🤣
I'm so glad Amazon stops you from buying a kindle book twice, there's been a few times I've seen a good deal and then found out I've already bought it. I do have a lot of duplicates where I've bought the ebook for 99p because who knows when I'll be stuck somewhere with just my kindle and no access to my physical shelves!I only add owned books onto my Goodreads TBR otherwise it would be chaos.
I had been keeping a list of books I read on the computer since 1989, so over time I've plugged them all in to Goodreads. If I hadn't done this, I'm certain that I would be repeat reading on accident. I do it with movies all the time. The joys of an aging brain!
Ellie wrote: "I'm so glad Amazon stops you from buying a kindle book twice..."This is unfortunately not fool proof. I believe it used to be, but when I filed an inquiry with Amazon, I think I was told that Amazon bases the check on ASIN or ISBN (I can't remember) and publishers sometimes change the value with new releases, including edit updates of books. It seems to be more of an issue since the Goodreads "merge".
Ah I wonder if this is different in the UK, I have kindle books I bought years and years ago and even though the editions have changed, they do have a message telling me when I bought it. I know that UK editions are not automatically added to Goodreads so maybe we aren't merged.
Ellie wrote: "Ah I wonder if this is different in the UK, I ..." I'm not sure, I guess anything's possible. My best example is The Chronicles of Narnia. I bought all 7 books on the same day in 2013. The Silver Chair doesn't have the message, all the others do. The "new" kindle edition of The Silver Chair had editorial changes. I have noticed that there are times when the book page doesn't have the message and I receive a message once I click the buy button. It's a great feature and I love it, but it's just not 100% reliable.
