I've gotten used to more, eh, D&D inspired worlds, where the pantheon is almost completely divorced from the magic or the everyday lives, and temples are there more for flavour text than as part of everyone's lives.

And yet, it manages to completely avoid, if you'll pardon, deus ex machina, because the bits of theology thrown in show that the divine magic is just as limited in its own way "and when we fail, the gods fail too."

Though Caz's "first" death seems a bit of a cheat - but then, when chewed on, it's exactly the kind of cheat you'd expect of the gods.

The religion is actually convincing.
