Strange the Dreamer by Laini Taylor - 5 Stars

Laszlo Strange is an orphan with impossible dreams who is destined to find adventure. It seems like the beginning of every fantasy novel but if Laini Taylor begins with classic premises, they are not a well-trodden path she walks but rather a trampoline she uses to vault the reader into her own original magic. Every time you worry her prose might tip into too much or her love stories veer cliché, she always pulls them back to amazing just in time to surprise and delight the reader. There is always just enough humor and endearing characters to support the drama. This book is heartfelt and surprising, full of adventure, grief, and beauty...and ends with “to be continued”! Yay and grrrrrr all at once!

This book has been on my radar for a bit, but I have yet to officially add it to the TBR.

Is it the first book in a trilogy/series though? If so, I am out.

It's a duology, the second part of which is out in November.

I *loved* this one when I read it earlier this year and have been trying to sell it to anyone who will remotely listen.

(I also have an e-ARC of the sequel that I dearly want to read but also don't want to read because then it will be over.)
