I really wonder more about Arab Ruta and his life. In the book, he is always just the loyal faithful companion always seeming to agree with Beryl's ideas.
Do you think he ever disagreed with Beryl? Or is it just that he knew that in 1930's Kenya, his African heritage put him at a disadvantage.

I get the feeling that if he had Beryl wouldn't listened respectfully and gone and done what she wanted anyway. Maybe he understood the futility of disagreeing with her. She doesn't seem like the kind of person who would use his heritage against him.
