There is another website with free documentary programs, which has hundreds of videos about Japan.
For the last year they have been promoting the city-host of the upcoming 2020 Olympics. There are other nice programs there but this is the one I would recommend to anyone who is planning to travel there

Did you get a chance to check any of these out, Kate? Some of the Smithsonian videos are extremely entertaining and though Frontline can get a bit too "heavy" with their themes, both are very educational.

No time! But I have bookmarked them and also am giving them to my husband because he lives for this stuff. All the history channel stuff and science channel stuff? His faves!

Hey, I ran across this on Youtube. It's interesting and not very time heavy.

Raised my eyebrow more than once, pretty interesting.

Found a bookmarked link for a rare video of Zelazny reading in front of a crowd. The video quality is atrocious but the short story he reads in the clip has everyone laughing out loud every second sentence.

Still more amazing stories about famous sci-fi authors. Pretty entertaining even though I am not in a habit of following personal lives of authors I like. Probably for the fear of becoming unable to separate their personalities with their novels.
https://www.smithsonianchannel.com/fu... - these HD episodes rotate every couple of weeks with predominant themes of global cultures and American history. The site features a couple of Attenborough clips, a rarity!
https://www.pbs.org/wgbh/frontline/wa... - serious investigative journalism defines the most of the documentaries that can be found on this site. Topics like drug addiction, terrorism and national security are explored thoroughly and in-depth. There are occasional 3hr specials on American Presidents.
