A neo-slave narrative that uses the science fiction device of time travel to bring a contemporary black woman (and the reader) back to the stark horror of the antebellum south. The story is gripping and the moral dilemmas the characters face are chilling. I was very drawn into the story although I found it hard to read at times because of the violent injustice which is hard to witness in any era. And I found the ending frustrating and not very fulfilling but I won’t go into detail so as to avoid spoilers. Still... good writing, gripping story and savagely poignant topic. Definitely worth a read.

I am moving it to the July dystopia reads folder but let me know if it should be elsewhere.
