Shana Kaplan (sek1128) | 93 comments "we all move forward when
we recognize how resilient
and striking the women
around us are"

It's hard to choose just one favorite. I loved this book and just finished reading the sun and her flowers which also moved me. Thanks Emma for choosing Milk and Honey and helping me to embrace poetry. Good luck everyone.

message 3: by Danielle (new)

Danielle (danijenks) | 3 comments i stand on the sacrifices of a million women before me
thinking what can i do to make this mountain taller so the women after me
can see farther.

message 4: by Vie (new)

Vie every time you
tell your daughter
you yell at her
out of love
you teach her to confuse
anger with kindness
which seems like a good idea
till she grows up to
trust men who hurt her
cause they look so much
like you

message 5: by Evelin (new)

Evelin (readbyevelin) | 1 comments i want to apologize to all the women
i have called pretty
before i’ve called them intelligent or brave
i am sorry i made it sound as though
something as simple as what you’re born with
is the most you have to be proud of when your
spirit has crushed mountains
from now on i will say things like
you are resilient or you are extraordinary
not because i don’t think you’re pretty
but because you are so much more than that

message 6: by MEka (new)

MEka | 1 comments this boat is not strong enough to carry
this much sorrow to a shore
what does it matter she says
if drowning is easier than staying

message 7: by Nathalie (new)

Nathalie | 5 comments I am hopelessly
a lover and
a dreamer and
that will be the
death of me

message 8: by Notash (new)

Notash Batool (iamnotashbatool) | 53 comments i’ve had sex she said

but i don’t know

what making love

feels like

if i knew what

safety looked like

i would have spent less time falling into

arms that were not

sex takes the consent of two

if one person is lying there not doing anything cause they are not ready

or not in the mood

or simply don’t want to

yet the other is having sex

with their body it’s not love it is rape- rupi kaur

Those chattering sounds, that can heel my wounds

The air is so pleasing that can even calm a thunder,i found

The rebirth of flowers, the rabbles of butterflies, can make you too feel awesome

Sitting under the shelter of a tree,i was wondering that

What if spring doesn't go?- Notash!

message 9: by Notash (new)

Notash Batool (iamnotashbatool) | 53 comments a woman of sikhi

the world

gives you

so much pain

and here you are

making gold out of it

- there is nothing purer than that how you love yourself is

how you teach others

to love you

my heart aches for sisters more than anything it aches for women helping women like flowers ache for spring- rupi kaur

Your shout can heal anyone's wound and that isn't just easy.

I would rather prefer to kill myself, then to kill my dignity

I stand against them,

And,I won and they lose,

The dignity won and their brutality lose,- Notash

message 10: by Notash (new)

Notash Batool (iamnotashbatool) | 53 comments and learn to kiss me with your eyes closed something about the phrase—something about how i have to be unlike the women i call sisters in order to be wanted makes me want to spit your tongue out like i am supposed to be proud you picked me as if i should be relieved you think i am better than them

message 11: by Notash (new)

Notash Batool (iamnotashbatool) | 53 comments I waited for your call,

And you were looking for my text,

That was killing us like hell,

Like nothing was left,

I was feeling for what I had done,

This is my poetry...

extracted 5 lines from my poetry
But you were brave enough,

To say sorry by yourself,

Then you came to me,

And hugged me so tight,

And I forget what had happened,

Notash Batool (iamnotashbatool) | 53 comments The humans may live together but will feel uncomfortable when gathered

In the light of this wicked moon,

I realize that,

I was the only fool to be loyal

Me in my solitude was thinking about the phases of life.

message 14: by Vero (new)

Vero | 2 comments What's the greatest lesson a woman should learn?

That since day one, she's already had everything
she needs within herself, it's the world that
convinced her she did not.

message 15: by Yamone (new)

Yamone (ksarahz) | 1 comments Everyone is blind
when they are not kind.
When the world is going to sink,
everyone should need a think.

(This is my only poem that I wrote when I was in high school.)

message 16: by Spencer (new)

Spencer | 26 comments “ I am a museum full of art but you had your eyes shut”

Everyone has a beauty to them, both inside and out, but some people decide to overlook that and and put down others. It is important to see everyone as their own museum, to learn, and admire their unique beauties.

message 17: by Isabel (new)

Isabel (isabelvr) | 4 comments “You do not just wake up and become the butterfly.”

Growth is a process, you don’t just change overnight. This quote really motivates me to work harder and change myself to be better, and to not quit when it seems that there is no improvement. You’ll see how far you’ve come when looking back.

Ashley | 194 comments Here's an original:

Strife and anguish hidden behind smiling eyes
Bright colors and tatooed images hiding these scars
We're told to look beautiful, fulfill their fantasies
But I am young and strong and I raise my voice loud
Yelling into the abyss, my words lost in this vacuum of a world.

cyn (cyncinnati) | 16 comments An excerpt from my own poem:

The landscape below became a slate of diamond
The pressure of a thousand suns
Turning the stone into iridescent tears.
Diamonds were meant to wrap a finger;
Promising love.

message 29: by Jordan (new)

Jordan | 2 comments One of my favourites by Rupi -

to hate
is an easy lazy thing
but to love
takes strength
everyone has
but not all are
willing to practice

And another favourite (because really, who can pick just one?)...

the irony of loneliness
is well all feel it
at the same

Thanks OSS! x

Sudi (sudid) | 9 comments i hear a thousand kind words about me
and it makes no difference
