Andrea Ocasio | 5 comments I read this book a couple of years ago, maybe 2013-2017 & the author was female. I think it's set in a small town in Colorado maybe, where two siblings passing through decide to stay for a bit longer.

The brother uses the sister's pool skills to hustle people for money and then spends almost all of it. One day, the hustling gets a little dangerous and a man at the bar is forced to intervene before it escalates. After spending more time together, the sister and the man who intervened become romantically involved and he offers her a place to live at his ranch (despite his grandmother's disapproval) & she decides to stay in the small town and give up the life of hustling.
*Spoilers ahead*
However, soon after the brother colludes with the man who she had hustled at pool to separate the main characters and the girl is forced to leave the ranch to go 'help' her brother. She leaves a note saying she'll come back but the love interest never found it & when she finally does come, she sees him with someone else so she decides to move on by herself and becomes a burlesque dancer in Vegas (maybe at The Flamingo). As a burlesque dancer, she becomes quite successful and befriends the club's owner (who is secretly gay).

Eventually someone from the town she left finds her and asks her for help saving the guy's ranch (it's being threatened with repossession by the bank from the same guy she hustled way back). Now that she's got money and is independent, she comes back to the town (with the club owner & best friend pretending to be her boyfriend) with something to prove. At first, the man is reluctant to accept the help because he believes the main character left him with no explanation, but eventually the truth comes out.
