Plus lots more to cover over 1000 pages…

These books are so long. I read one/year, during my holidays from work. I don’t know whether or not it’s worth continuing. This one (as the others might, but it’s been a while) felt like a series of vignettes… in order to fill over 1300 pages, so in some ways, kind of like short stories with the same characters. Some of those vignettes I found interesting; others, I didn’t. It’s not a fast paced book (or series), but there were open-ended threads left at the end of the book. The length of these books makes me not want to continue, but I’m still interested, so I don’t know. I will certainly continue watching the tv show.

Nicole R (drnicoler) | 7992 comments I have been thinking about reading this one in August, but I am just not sure. My copy is over 1500 pages and that just seems like a lot! Lol

Jgrace | 3349 comments From what I've read of what Gabaldon says about her writing, it's not surprising that her books are like a series of vignettes. She creates scenes and conversations and puts them together like piecing a quilt. This is one of my favorite books not for the overall outcome, but because it has some of my favorite scenes. I own all of these books in print and as audios, so sometimes I just reread or re-listen to the best parts.

This book has a great ghost story, a murder mystery, a fun new years barn dance and the return of a favorite character. It was worth reading all of those pages.

Joanne (joabroda1) | 9951 comments I also have read them all and will at some point go back and re-read in order to refresh my memory, before the next one is finished and on the shelves.(Sometimes I wish authors and publishers would be 2-3 books ahead of the series, as I hate the waiting!) There were times I felt like just quitting the series, but I was glad I held on. The story line really picks up after this book, in my opinion.

LibraryCin | 9959 comments I do feel like the series of vignettes does work well for the tv show!
