We're excited about new monsters and solarpunk but mostly we're excited about Mortal Engines! Except for all the murder.

Sean Lookielook Sandulak (seansandulak) | 431 comments In case there was any confusion with what Veronica said, the Vaginal Fantasy Book Club is still alive and kicking. We do a forum poll each month to pick a new book. We read "Song of Achilles" while S&L was doing "Circe". This month it's "On Basilisk Station". For August, we'll be reading a historical romance. And while the hangouts have ended, we now have a monthly Discord chat to discuss the book. If you like more sizzle in your SFF, come check us out at https://www.goodreads.com/vaginalfantasy

Sheila Jean | 317 comments 1. Veronica, my library offers their access to digital magazines via an app called Zinio for Libraries.

2. Apparently I didn't really pay attention to how ME ended....

terpkristin | 4132 comments Is this another joint episode like the last one?

No, just T & V.

terpkristin | 4132 comments Thanks Sean!

Tina (javabird) | 683 comments Veronica, congratulations on getting your library card! Very cool.

Some libraries provide digital magazines through the RBDigital or Zinio apps. There's usually a link through your library website.

AndrewP (andrewca) | 2471 comments On Basilisk Station seems like an odd pick for the VF group.

John (Taloni) Taloni (johntaloni) | 3911 comments ^ Good read, thanks.

When I heard Tor was delaying new release for four months, my reaction was "sure, I can wait." Not that I mind paying, but many of the books I read are years old. If I'm buying new it's usually an Indie.

AndrewP (andrewca) | 2471 comments In a way it kind of makes sense to follow the same model as the movie industry. You can't get a movie on DVD or streaming until several months after the release. If you really have to see/read something right now, then you should be willing to pay a premium.

Trike | 8297 comments Totally agree.

Or they could follow the Netflix model, all the episodes all at once. So we'd get all of the Expanse novels or Dresden files all at once. ;-P

The primary focus of VF has always been female protagonists in genre fiction, the romance part being desirable but optional. We'd never done a military-style space opera before so I put it on the poll. To be honest, some have complained about the amount of technical exposition over actual plot. Picking unpopular flops is a proud VF tradition as well.

Almost unknown outside the US. Which makes it highly doubtful she would become a god in a foreign city thousands of years in the future.

She was a charlatan who made money fooling gullible people by lying to them.

Sounds just like religion ;-)

I'd hate to ask what the opposite on an "unpopular flop" is for the VF bookclub :-?

;-)

I didn't know she was elected to US Govenment :)

Jenny (Reading Envy) (readingenvy) | 2844 comments Veronica, congratulations on your library card! The last time I was in San Francisco, 2004 or so, I walked into one of the downtown branches (probably the central one) and discovered it is the library used in the movie City of Angels. You know, the one with Meg Ryan and Nicolas Cage, where angels hang out in the library so they can learn things. It was a lovely nerdy moment for me.

Tasha I got Jade City on a Kindle Daily deal; I wouldn't have looked twice at it, but Dara keeps FREAKING OUT about it. So I bought it... Haven't read it yet.

Haha b/c of Dara constant cheerleading about Jade City, I'm currently half thru it. I would not have pick the book, up vote on being a monthly pick.

So this is weird.... I actually just made Jade City the pick before I saw this thread. SO OK YOU WON! Somehow through the power on inception.

I mean, I’m the one who suggested Jade City and Dara piggybacked on me, but that’s okay, it’s not about who gets credit. [sits in corner and cries]

Back in February however: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

Also possibly earlier than that back in January in the Kindle daily deal thread: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...
