Chris | 21 comments Hi there,

I'm looking for books, novellas, short stories, which revolve around the following:

a stranger/outsider comes to town/small village and because of his/her doings stirs up the village peace.

also any stories about sort of self-proclaimed Messiahs or people doing something strange/ out of the ordinary which causes wonder/confusion/admiration or violence.

Thanks a lot for any help or leads.

Chris

This section is if you are looking for one specific book; perhaps one that you've read in the past or heard about, but don't remember the title or author.

If you want recommendations for books of a certain genre or theme, you should move your thread to the "Suggest books for me" folder. (There's an edit button next to the thread title on a desk- or lap-top; if you're on your phone, ask a moderator to move it for you).

C. | 219 comments Showdown (Paradise, #1) by Ted Dekker and Halos by Kristen Heitzmann The only two I can think of right now, but I hope you get lots more suggestions. :D

They are both Christian suspense, and even though I am no longer a Christian ,I have fond memories of many excellent Christian fiction books that I have read over the years.

I don't believe in the god myth, magic or anything supernatural, but I still love reading books with those elements.

SamSpayedPI | 2075 comments Someone (John Gardner? Tolstoy?) once said there were only two plots: the hero goes on a journey, and a stranger comes to town. You'd think it would be easier to come up with some examples!

Hillary | 274 comments do you want only bad or creepy things to happen when the stranger comes to town, or is uplifting, changes for the better type things ok>
If so:
Britt-Marie Was Here
The Readers of Broken Wheel Recommend
The Storied Life of A.J. Fikry (the "stranger" is a baby)

there are a lot of small town cozy mysteries where the action is stirred by a stranger coming to down, would those be applicable?
