Courtney Stubley | 1 comments I believe I first read this book 7-10 years ago (2008-2011)

It is an historical fiction book written about a woman in hiding for some reason with a child. She is in a Dutch country and secretly makes a living as a cloth/textile merchant. She sits for a painting of herself (this was important in her story)

She was in fear of being attacked and suffered an attack one night after staying too late sitting for her painting while she crossed the ice of one of the canals in the city.

Thanks so much for any help!

A few long shots:

- The Weaver's Daughter by Elizabeth Jeffrey?

- The Lady and the Unicorn by Tracy Chevalier?

Courtney, what's the time period? Is a war going on?
