In joining this review group you have agreed to review the books assigned to you on a two month schedule. This group is now in the review phase and is no longer open for sign up.

This is Urban/Paranormal Fiction Review Group 2. As with other review groups, you will be expected to read and give an honest review of the books assigned to you. Assignments will be made after the group sign-up has filled.

Participants are expected to post reviews to Goodreads. Due to changes in how Amazon enforces its policies, it may not be possible to post reviews on Amazon. We encourage participants to post reviews on Amazon, if and where possible. Authors are welcome to request that reviewers post reviews to other venues, as well. Reviewers are welcome to offer to post reviews to other venues, if the subject book is available there.

Contact the authors you are scheduled to review to arrange to receive a review copy of their work or, if the reviewer prefers to give the author a sale, purchase it.

Please post to this topic, both when you receive review copies and when you post the reviews. Authors may respond to reviews, but any form of harassment or anger directed at reviewers will be treated as a violation of the terms of service for this group.

If you are going to be late with your review, either post to this topic as soon as possible or message the author and the moderator.

If your book has not been reviewed by the deadline for either round, contact the review group moderator. This is necessary to make certain that the review process is fair for everyone.

Note that any participant who makes no effort to fulfill his or her commitment to this group will have all reviews of his or her work resulting from this group deleted and his or her membership in the Genre Specific Review Group will be terminated.

Please read and adhere to the Code of Conduct at https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/....

Darrell Nelson | 21 comments Hey Scott,
I'd like to enter with my Paranormal Comedy An Extra Topping of Horror https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/1...
So far 100% of the people in this round have reviewed my books, but not this one.

message 4: by Chris (new)

Chris Keaton | 134 comments I have a contemporary fantasy, but it's not set in a city. I'm not sure what the accepted definition of 'urban fantasy' is?

message 5: by Ada (last edited Jul 10, 2018 08:52AM) (new)

Ada Wallace (adamariewallace) | 6 comments I'd like to enter my book.
Ada Marie Wallace

The Dark & Divine Transmigrations (The Dark and Divine Book 1) by Ada Marie Wallace The Dark & Divine: Transmigrations

My book is set in urban Canada starting in one era and into modern time. Characters are in every day situations with paranormal beings and threats along with it.

message 6: by Darrell (new)

Darrell Nelson | 21 comments From Wikipedia:
Urban fantasy is a subgenre of fantasy in which the narrative has an urban setting.[1][2] Works of urban fantasy are set primarily in the real world and contain aspects of fantasy, such as the discovery of earthbound mythological creatures, coexistence or conflict between humans and paranormal beings, and other changes to city life.[3][4] A contemporary setting is not strictly necessary for a work of urban fantasy: works of the genre may also take place in futuristic and historical settings, actual or imagined.

message 7: by K.T. (new)

K.T. Munson | 278 comments Hey R! If this group is for urban or paranormal (not urban and paranormal) I’d like to join with The Sixth Gate.

https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/3...

I have read both Scott’s book and Chris’s.

My book has scenes in cities, but they're not central to the work. I'll sit out this round. Thanks.

Justin Coogle | 6 comments I’d like to include my book, Kingdom Come.

Kingdom Come by Justin Coogle

message 10: by Laura (new)

Laura Koerber | 120 comments Hmmm...It it probably a stretch to consider by book Limbo as paranormal since the ghosts in the story exist in another plane, not on earth It's a story set in an afterlife. And the afterlife is rural. Would that be acceptable as paranormal?

https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/3...

If the powers that be find this book to be within your genre, I would be happy to join in.

Let me know what you think about including Laura's book. If the consensus is to include it in this group, we will have six participants and I can start the scheduling phase.

message 12: by Scott (new)

Scott Spotson (scottspotson) | 272 comments Yes. Also I've read Chris's books and I definitely consider them urban fantasy. He's bowed out so it might be too late. Also I didn't see the book he was offering so if he wrote one that was quite different from his usual I wouldn't know.

I'll declare my conflicts (quite a few) when I see some settling of the participant list.

message 13: by K.T. (new)

K.T. Munson | 278 comments Limbo for sure sounds paranormal to me. If my book is allowed I think hers should be too.

message 14: by Darrell (new)

Darrell Nelson | 21 comments Laura's book sounds Paranormalish to me. I only posted the Wikipedia entry to help people know of (a) definition of Urban Fantasy. It is not absolute, it's Wikipedia (That should be their motto).
Also I have absolutely no authority here, (This is my first time in this group).
I'm sorry if I caused any confusion. Personally, I will read anything that isn't Post US Civil War Reconstructionism. (Luckily not a lot of that in new releases.) My book takes place in a small town, but has Vampires, Ogres, Werewolves, ghosts of dead children (because ghosts of live children would be freaky) Witches and their familiars, Devil worshipers and the like.
I entered it because in my humble opinion People who like stories about the paranormal and urban fantasy should like it.

message 15: by Darrell (new)

Darrell Nelson | 21 comments After saying that, I have to make a correction:
I would read Post US Civil War Reconstructionism if it had Dragons and Ghosts and Ogres.
Having the Southern Aristocrats going into a long winded speech and then gobbled up by a Dragon would be awesome.

We have six. That may or may not be enough depending on conflicts. Please let me know about any conflicts as soon as possible.

message 17: by Justin (new)

Justin Coogle | 6 comments I have 1 conflict. Laura has previously reviewed my novel.

message 18: by Scott (new)

Scott Spotson (scottspotson) | 272 comments If here I say nothing about a particular book having been reviewed, assume that the book itself is fine for reviewing either way.

Darrell can't review me.

I can't review K.T., and she'll have to read a different book of mine, but I do have others that are urban fantasy or paranormal.

I can't review Laura.

Thanks!

message 19: by Darrell (new)

Darrell Nelson | 21 comments Other than Scott who has reviewed other books of mine, but not this one, I've got no conflict.

message 20: by K.T. (new)

K.T. Munson | 278 comments I’ve read Scott’s book. I’ve read Laura as well, but not this book and I’d be happy to read another of hers. ☺️

I believe those are my only conflicts. I look forward to reading with this group!

message 21: by Laura (new)

Laura Koerber | 120 comments I have already reviewed Justin's book. Scott, your name is familiar? Have I reviewed a different book form you? I do not recognize the title of what you have posted here. I have done so much reviewing that everyone's name looks familiar but I can never remember why.

message 31: by Laura (new)

Laura Koerber | 120 comments Thank you for the lovely review. I am sorry that I didnt stop you in time! I got on the computer this afternoon with the intention of dropping out of this group because Amazon is not allowing me to post reviews. I have filed a complaint and and appeal of their ruling on the complaint. I will proceed and try to post reviews of my two assigned books, but there is the possibility that I will not be able to get the reviews on Amazon. So,,,I will try but I might not be able to meet my obligations.

Read the guidelines in the opening post of this topic. We are aware of the problems with Amazon. See if the authors would like for you to post reviews to other venues besides Amazon.

Darrell Nelson | 21 comments Thanks for that great review.
Don't worry, I'm not the only one who's been told if you put a scene like the one you had a problem with in, you'll never make the 19th highest grossing film of all time.
Now to prove everyone wrong. lol.

Followed by my best Peter Vere-Jones impression:
The gruel is ready

(BTW: The scene you had a problem with was my homage to Peter Jackson's first film. He later went on to produce the Hobbit films.)

Thank you for the review and critique. Greatly appreciated. I've been working on getting a professional editor since I didn't have the funds before. 8 Years in the making and I can finally afford one. So another edition will come out. But I'm glad you enjoyed the story itself, and I will definitely be working on the errors.
