Special Character Issues in Book Description

Hi!

I work for a publishing house (still working on getting a librarian designation) and my author's listing had an odd reaction to special characters. It reads: "he finds the best thing everƒ‚‚"ƒ‚‚€ƒ‚‚"a loving owner!" but should read:
he finds the best thing ever--a loving owner!". (should be an em dash, but there are formatting limitations). Any help you can provide is much appreciated!
