Nominations for our August read are now open. And the theme is...Books published in the 1950s.

To help out with those doing the Reading the 20th Century challenge, I'm going to be throwing in the odd decade into the themes every now and then.

Criteria:
1. Book must be by a female author (transwomen and women using male pseudonyms are women).
2. Book must have been first published between 1950 and 1959
3. No books that have already been group reads (see our list of previous reads)
4. You cannot nominate a book you have written yourself. (Probably not so applicable for this theme!)

How to Nominate:
1. Give both the title of the book and the author's name when nominating to avoid mix-ups. Title only nominations may be missed
2. Please use the 'add book/author' button when nominating otherwise your nomination risks being missed.
3. NEW RULE! Please indicate whether you are willing to lead discussion on the book.
4. Try to avoid using this thread for chatter as it makes it very hard to locate what are actual nominations and what is just discussion. If you really want to discuss something, please drop it in a spoiler tag.
5. One nomination per person.

Nominations will close on 11 July when the poll will go up. Poll will close on 18 July

The Price of Salt by Patricia Highsmith - Margarida to lead
A Legacy by Sybille Bedford - El to lead
Giant by Edna Ferber - Carol to lead
Brown Girl, Brownstones by Paule Marshall - Sofia to lead
The Bell by Iris Murdoch - Liesl to lead
Memoirs of Hadrian by Marguerite Yourcenar
