Post your thoughts on After Anna by by Lisa Scottoline here!

Dizzy (dizzy_booknerd) | 16 comments I read this about a month ago - will be curious to see how everyone here likes it!

Lance (sportsbookguy) I have my audio copy going - about 25% done. The format is different. I have read many reviews both good and not-so-good, so I will hold off on anything more until I finish.

Lance (sportsbookguy) Trying so hard to not get angry with this the 2/3 point...

PugMom (nicoleg76) | 204 comments I just finished it today. I definitely didn’t see the story going in that direction! I have a question about something that happened but I don’t want to add an early spoiler so I’ll wait until more people have commented.

Lance (sportsbookguy) I finished on Friday and I have volumes to say, most of it not so good. I know Courtney just started it the day I finished so I too will hold off, but I couldn't stand this. Starting with Maggie...

Sheri Vincent | 51 comments I finished the book this weekend. I didn't see the ending going in the direction it did either. I am not really sure how I feel about the book. Have to think on that note!

PugMom (nicoleg76) | 204 comments I just wanted to ask who sent the text to Noah? I think I missed the explanation since there was so much going on I was reading at breakneck speed to find out what happened!

Lance (sportsbookguy) I don't think that was ever revealed. But by then I was so disillusioned and angry about this book I probably didn't care.

PugMom (nicoleg76) | 204 comments Some elements of the book were like “are you kidding me”? But I have to admit that I had to read it quickly to find out what really happened. Was the mom just beyond stupid or was it just me?

Lance (sportsbookguy) Oh, no, I thought that Maggie was that way throughout the book. (view spoiler) Both she and Anna were very unlikable characters. At least by the end, we can see why Anna was.

message 12: by Lance (last edited Jul 17, 2018 05:37PM) (new) - rated it 2 stars

Lance (sportsbookguy) And while I am talking about characters, why is every male character with the exception of Caleb made to be such bad people? Heck, even Noah, supposedly the kind pediatrician, is made to be a horrible person. In both the chapters about the trial and those in which he is interacting with Maggie and Anna, I don't think that the author meant to portray him in a favorable light. (view spoiler)

Lance (sportsbookguy) Oh, man, I am just getting started with how much I detested this book. But I will let someone else speak right now.

Lance (sportsbookguy) Or maybe not, since no one else has for a couple days. Here's another observation - (view spoiler)

Lance (sportsbookguy) Hoping I didn't scare everyone off with my not so flattering thoughts on this book. It really should be one star, but since I finished it it gets 2. I still have more, but I better let someone else chime in before this becomes a one man rant

I'm only about halfway through this book, so I'm not going to read the spoilers yet, but I have a feeling I'm leaning towards the same way as Lance. My biggest problem with this book so far is that Scottoline is trying really hard to make her characters sound young. And as a young person, I can say she's kind of failing. Maggie uses phrases that no one uses anymore (and is kind of obnoxious, and way too shallow), and Anna has a Facebook even though teens don't use Facebook anymore. Also, why would she make a new profile after moving? That just made no sense to me. A lot of the vocabulary is off. I'll wait to say more about the characters after I finish the book.

Lance (sportsbookguy) Oh, keep going - some of your questions will be answered as you progress, especially about the new profile. The next point I want to make I will wait until you finish.

Dizzy (dizzy_booknerd) | 16 comments I had high hopes for this book, as I love Lisa Scottoline, but after all was said and done I wasn't the biggest fan. (view spoiler)

I finished this book about a week ago, but haven't had a chance to post my thoughts on it yet. I didn't hate this book, but I was disappointed in it. I agree with Dizzy, the ending felt way too rushed and tried to pack a lot into the final chapters that just kind of seemed to come out of nowhere. Out of all the characters (view spoiler) All said, this one didn't really do it for me. I'd probably read another Scottoline book though, and not judge her based off of this one.

Lance (sportsbookguy) Okay, since everyone finished, I'll add my last thought. The courtroom scenes, which nearly everyone liked and was the strength of this author earlier in her career, sure made Noah's defense lawyer seem incompetent. I found holes in this case and even if Noah objected, why didn't they call Maggie and ask her ton explain the TRO? It seemed just too easy to convict Noah. And then his whole time in prison...the set-up, the fight, the sudden overturned conviction. This all happened that fast? Making the new information available at that precise time him? And the beef that the guards supposedly had was never fully explained - only what Noah thought.

I will not be reading any of her new books after this. It was terrible. I know, it's time to tell you how I REALLY feel! 😆

PugMom (nicoleg76) | 204 comments Thanks for letting us know how you really feel, Lance LOL
I'm glad I didn't listen to this on audiobook! Can you imagine how Maggie would have sounded? Even more annoying than she did in print! I really had high hopes for the book considering the blurb made it sound like a real page turner.

Yeah, I can imagine it would have been worse on audio!

Lance (sportsbookguy) I listened on audio and you were right. The narrator was fine, but you could tell she was struggling to speak teenage, and I thought that was perfect to describe Maggie's dialogue
