I wanted to love this book, more than I actually did love it. The blurb is so enticing. I am always a big fan of books that are heavy on character development, and especially those that tell me a tale of grief and difficulty. I love books that emphasize emotion. For me it is character over plot and emotion over thought. So this book sounded like it might be a 5 star read. Instead, I would give it a weak 3.5 rounded down to 3. I think perhaps it needed another 50 to 100 pages. I think then it may have been able to focus more heavily on all those emotions that occurred due to Lucy's one bad choice at age 9.
