So after a wonderful 66 of you voted, the winner and our group read for July is....

Red Queen (Red Queen, #1) by Victoria Aveyard
This is a world divided by blood - red or silver. The Reds are commoners, ruled by a Silver elite in possession of god-like superpowers. And to Mare Barrow, a seventeen-year-old Red girl from the poverty-stricken Stilts, it seems like nothing will ever change. That is until she finds herself working in the Silver Palace. Here, surrounded by the people she hates the most, Mare discovers that, despite her red blood, she possesses a deadly power of her own. One that threatens to destroy the balance of power. Fearful of Mare's potential, the Silvers hide her in plain view, declaring her a long-lost Silver princess, now engaged to a Silver prince. Despite knowing that one misstep would mean her death, Mare works silently to help the Red Guard, a militant resistance group, and bring down the Silver regime. But this is a world of betrayal and lies, and Mare has entered a dangerous dance - Reds against Silvers, prince against prince, and Mare against her own heart.

I've had this on my shelf for forever so I am super excited about this one. Hope you are all going to join me in this one.

Megan Oh no :( I really hate this book... I hope the rest of you have fun reading it! Maybe the august book of the month will be more my thing.

message 5: by [deleted user] (new)

I'm in, read it a few years ago and loved it. It's the perfect time for a reread, I just got a hold on the Glass Sword from the library.

I may read in the middle of the month too. Right now I am reading the SOTM book, but I would really like to read the whole Red Queen series.

heather - NightlyReading (heatherhy01) | 1001 comments Sydni wrote: "I love it but I been so busy with school work 😪"

I have too many review books that I need to get through first. I did read it a few years ago and remember loving it!

message 22: by [deleted user] (new)

I am loving it so far. I am in 70+ pages in and it is going so far. I’m also listening on audio (kinda like read along) and the cds each have 23 tracks however there are 10 CDs in the pack I’m on the third now

Glad you’re enjoying it Sydni.
I can’t wait to read it in a few weeks.

message 24: by Tanya (new)

Tanya Allsopp I have read this recently and the rest of the series to date. Unfortunately I am not a huge fan of the protagonist Mare. There is an overwhelming element of self absorption that is over the top by even normal YA standards. The predictability and repetitive language grated also.
However, they are a series that you still feel the need to read and will love to hate or just love so worth a read either way. The reason for reading the remainder of the books was 1) having committed already, I always find the need to see where it’s going 2) the hope and wont that it may just start to improve!

I have only read the first and I remember really enjoying it, although that was several years ago and my tastes may have changed since then? I am hoping that I will still enjoy it as much since I just bought book 2 to continue the series after I re-read the first one:) BTW, I cannot stand repetitive language in my books...maybe I didn't notice it first time around??

message 26: by [deleted user] (new)

I'll be starting my reread in a few days, but I must have missed the repetitive language too. I just remember enjoying it. Maybe that makes the difference, if you're not enjoying a book you're probably more likely to notice those kinds of things

message 27: by [deleted user] (new)

I’m 50% finished with the book and I love it

message 28: by Keiria (new)

Keiria (kwegmann) | 101 comments Just finished chapter 4 (14% done) and I'm enjoying it. It's very intense & reminds me of The Hunger Games.

message 29: by [deleted user] (new)

I’m on chapter 22 and I’m enjoying it still

message 30: by [deleted user] (new)

Finishing up 🤗 what a fantastic book this has been

message 31: by Keiria (new)

Keiria (kwegmann) | 101 comments I'm getting ready to start chapter 16. I think Julian Jacos might be my favorite character. We'll see if that changes.

message 32: by [deleted user] (new)

My favorite is Cal

message 33: by [deleted user] (new)

I'll be starting this week, but I've already read it. Though I don't remember enough to say who my favorite is :p

heather - NightlyReading (heatherhy01) | 1001 comments My order from Book Outlet should be coming sometime the week and then I will have this book and can start re-reading it again! I ordered book 2 as well so that I can just keep going and finish the series straight away!

I have 4 more books to read before I can start it. I finish work on Friday for 4 weeks though so hopefully will get through those quite quickly.

heather - NightlyReading (heatherhy01) | 1001 comments I finally was able to start Red Queen. I just finished chapter 8 and I Am Loving It!!! I feel like I may be skimming a little since I have read it once before and am trying to just remember everything that happened!

and there's a lot that happens! At the beginning of Glass Swords she's thinking about everything she's been through (basically a mini recap of Red Queen) and she makes a comment about how everything happened within 7 days.

Has anyone listened to the audio edition of this one? As I am preparing for my upcoming book con, I've been reading books by authors attending and feel like I am running out of time to read Red Queen so wondering whether to get the audio edition to listen to when I'm just doing house stuff or walking my dog. Just wondering what the narrator is like.
