Of Human Bondage
question
looking for recommendations

Hello!
I love Of Human Bondage, it is without doubt my favourite book ever, and its my 'go to' read.
However I am looking for something else and I'm not having any luck. I am kind of looking for something of a similar ilk, but perhaps more modern.
Anyone have any recommendations?

I also loved Of Human Bondage; I just read it last year so it is still relatively fresh in my mind.
I think you may like East of Eden by John Steinbeck or if you don't like that try Lonesome Dove by Larry McMurtry. I loved both books.

Maugham's my favourite writer. If you liked Of Human Bondage, you'll also like The Razor's Edge; and my own favourite of his novels, The Painted Veil (great character studies in an exotic far east setting). He's a great short story writer as well - can set a scene and bring a character to life in just a 2 or 3 sentences.
