scavengerhunt

Each month we will give you a list of 50 themed words to find in your books.

There is no limit to how many words you can get per book.

For each word please post a link to the book, the author, the date you finished it, plus the page number/location and sentence where you found the word.

EXAMPLE -
Apple - A Touch of Ice - L.J. Charles (1/10/16)
I had a weakness for apple pie, heavy on the cinnamon... (loc. 245)

Any genre/format is fine.
Re-reads are OK.
No page minimum.
To count a book towards the challenge you must read the majority of it after the start date of the challenge.
Please post a partial list of the challenge when you sign up.

At the end of the month please re-post your whole challenge as a new message so that we can award your Hall of Fame badge!

(Even if you don't hit the level you were aiming for, you can still claim a badge for the words you did get.)

5. Baseball: "He spoke like an American and was so knowledgeable in baseball and all the state capitals that no one who came across him would believe he was not an American but a barely legal immigrant child, a mostly illegal one, in fact, whose future in the country rested on a judge believing his father’s incredible story of fleeing persecution." 14. Field: "Eventually, shamefully, she decided to defer to his wisdom, knowing that few women (rich women included) had the privilege of being married to an overly protective man who not only did everything he could to ensure his wife’s comfort but also spent hours wiping the dust-covered walls of their apartment and killing the roaches that sprinted from one end of the living room to the other like track-and-field athletes, all so he could protect the health of his unborn child." Page 173
15. First: "They had spent an hour hunched over the cranky desktop, searching for the best answer, reading much-too-similar pieces of advice on the first ten sites Google delivered, before deciding it would be best if Jende spoke of his strong character and dependability, and of how he had everything a busy executive like Mr. Edwards needed in a chauffeur." Page 6
16. Foul: "But there was no water there, only a pile of garbage in its place, foul-smelling and stretching to the horizon." Page 169

33. Nine: "For twenty minutes they rode up the turnpike in silence, from exit nine toward Rutgers University, to exit ten for Perth Amboy, behind tractor-trailers and beside sedans with napping babies and dogs sticking out their heads for air; above a sky that bore the same cumulus clouds that had been following them like spies for three hours." Page 46

Welcome Anne!

I found a bunch in a Nora Robert's book. There was a mention of a baseball game but that's all. Good luck!

Missing Persons (Alan Gregory, #13) by Stephen White
1. Assist: I'd chosen a psychiatrist to assist Mrs. Miller because I knew that the initial phases of Mrs. Miller's treatment, and likely the long-term progression of her care as well...loc896
3. Ball: Then it would be a whole different ball game. loc1149
5. Baseball: The gesture closely resembled an insincere :safe" call by a baseball umpire. loc3423
7. Card: As long as that's the current theory, I can't play the I-think-she's-been-kidnapped card. loc1153
8. Catch: I flirted with her a little, an I'm going to see if I can catch up with her later on when she gets off work. loc2504
9. Center: She'd edge herself into a prime seat for the service, usually in the second or third row right behind the family, always on the bride's side, center aisle, and she'd smile and wave at the other guests as though she knew them quite well. loc818
10. Deck: You could have a deck that faces the Flatirons! loc3093
11. Double: When you think you know how bad it feels, double it. loc5152
12. Equipment: That was the only explanation Sam could concoct for how quickly the equipment reappeared on the streets of Boulder on the day after Christmas. loc583
14. Field: Some old-fashioned therapy would be just the trick to help lead his wife away from the middle of the field where she'd been aimlessly wandering and ease back onto the straight and narrow marital tracks where she belonged. loc800
15. First: My watch said 6:45 p.m. Hannah's first know missed appointment had been almost ten hours earlier, at 9 a.m. loc201
17. Game: I waited until Grace was in bed and Lauren was settled into the soothing rhythms of a game of pool in what-had we possessed a table and chairs instead of a tournament-quality pool table- should have been the dining room. loc1347
18. Gear:Once I'd finished retrieving the dogs from vacation doggie-camp at our neighbor Adrienne's house, and after I'd finished loading the car and stowing our ski gear, I phoned Diane to let her know that we were home and I was on the clock. loc730
21. Home: Neither Diane nor I was going to get home for dinner. loc222
25. Left: Down the hall on the left. loc138
26. Line: Not surprisingly, public opinion was divided along the same fault line. loc673
27. Lose: My intuition told me that his provocative tease about the missing girl would lose its energy if a long weekend intervened. loc1644
28. Major : Planning a major change in his parenting? loc3737
29. Minor : The past few years had confronted my friend with a minor heart attack, kidney stones, and gallstones. loc1438
32. National: I could have argued with him at that point, suggesting that maybe what he shouldn't have done was drive a minor who was the subject of a national manhunt across state lines. loc5616
33. Nine: Hannah had apparently been missing her clinical appointments since at least nine o'clock that morning. loc150
34. Offense: Simon-who, unlike his father, played offense- was doing a sleep-over at a teammate's house. loc1421
35. Out: The fact that I was sitting with Diane behind Hannah Grant's office at 6:30 on a mid-December Thursday evening meant that I'd already lost the argument we had been having since she yanked me out from behind my desk five minutes earlier. loc105
36. Park: Since I had a patient to see, I told her I'd park at our offices, too, and suggested we rendezvous outside Peppercorn at three. loc965
39. Relief: I wanted to feel the relief of insulation. loc573
40. Right: For something tobe a secret, somebody else has to know it, right? loc1928
41. Run: When the police pressed the issue, she'd enlisted Cozy Maitlin to run interference for her. loc486
Night Moves (Alex Delaware, #33) by Jonathan Kellerman
2. Athlete: Brett's a great athlete, he handles school basically okay. p30
4. Base: Definite ETD, approximate ETA back to base? p22
16. Foul: There isn't, no harm, no foul. p76
38. Pitch: Her vocal pitch had climbed, talking about her husband. p119
43. Score: How'd do score the hot wheels? p188
44. Second: The system came with the house, sensors on the ground floor but not the second. p9
45. Tag: How better to tag her as a deficient mother than by calling in a psychologist behind her back? p80
46. Team: new guy beefing up for the team? p12
47. Uniform: The uniform standing sentry opened the door for Milo and studied me. p10
48. Visit: I'll pay the Corvins a visit, mention Braun's name, see how they react. p113
49. Walk: A brief walk separated Bitt's property from the Corvin's. p46
Convicting Avery The Bizarre Laws and Broken System Behind -Making a Murderer- by Michael D. Cicchini
50. Win: Instead the other jurors were more passionate, believed they knew the truth, and were able to win in the end. p97
Unholy Messenger The Life and Crimes of the BTK Serial Killer by Stephen Singular
13. Farm: After investigating this case, the police decided that Allen had not been murdered but had killed himself by lying down on the railroad tracks near his farm home and letting a train end his life. p104
20. Hits: A Web site named CatchBTK.com was soon up and running, averaging fifty thousand hits a day. p21
24. League: While law enforcement looked into the death, Dolores's relatives sorted through her belongings and were surprised to find scores of periodicals and newsletters from animal rights groups, including the Doris Day Animal League and People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals. p141
