Kathleen Douglas | 9 comments Candice, do you like it so far?

message 4: by Candice (new)

Candice (candicerosado) | 21 comments Kathleen, it is interesting. A bit long winded but not too bad. I am a little over half way through and hope to finish it this weekend.

message 5: by Candice (new)

Candice (candicerosado) | 21 comments Just finished it. It was better than He Said/She Said but not my favorite.

message 6: by Kayla (new)

Kayla Calhoun | 8 comments That book was so long. The book with in the book was an interesting concept, but a lot of extra details. I didn’t predict the outcome so that is a positive. Overall I liked it.

message 7: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer (jenniferc01) | 3 comments I finished it. I switched back and forth between the audiobook and hard copy so I think that helped with the length of the book. I liked it. I didn't guessed wrong in both murders!

message 8: by Berna (new)

Berna I am a big fan of classical whodunnit stories, therefore it was impossible for me not to like this book 😊
I found the idea of two connecting murders really original. I found the murder in the novel a bit more exciting and the motive much more interesting but it had to be like that in order to be more realistic.
I sort of guessed the murder in the book but could not understand all the details, the murder in real life I had no idea until a few pages before ;)
The characters were more fleshed out than a normal detective story which was also a big plus.
I rated it four stars.

message 9: by Veronica (new)

Veronica I used to read everything Agatha Christie in my teens and liked this homage a lot. Gave it 4 stars.
I enjoyed the story within a story and the characters. Kept me guessing almost to the end.

message 10: by Addie Dehart (new)

Addie Dehart | 27 comments I just finished this. I've only read one Agatha Christie novel and I really liked it, and for the most part I really liked this one too. My experience reading the book was the opposite of Berna's. I liked the real life mystery more than the Atticus Punde mystery and I guessed the real life one but was unable to guess the Atticus Punde mystery. I do feel that the book was too long and unnecessarily convoluted (but I assume that's true to Agatha Christie's style?). I found that I've already forgotten most of the details of the story. For example I correctly suspected Charles of the murder and I had him pegged near the beginning, but for the life of me I can't remember why I suspected him. Ugh my memory, middle age sucks. 3.5 for me

message 11: by Brenda (new)

Brenda Jordan (bkjordan) | 8 comments Overall, I really liked this book. I gave it 4 stars. I really enjoyed the Atticus Pund novel and would have given it 4 stars without the Alan Conway storyline. Honestly, I was more interested in finding out how (Conway’s) Magpie Murders ended than I was in who killed Alan Conway. The Atticus Pund novel did have an Agatha Christie vibe, and I loved that because I have always been a fan of her books.

message 12: by Becky (new)

Becky (booksandbreggs) Kelly I just started it, and it's neat. I love the way it sets up!

message 13: by Rachel (new)

Rachel (theracheldays) | 20 comments I really enjoyed this book.

When I realised we here going to be transported back to the 50s with the book within a book I was sure I would like it. I have to say out of all the books on the list this was the one I was least looking forward to. Something about just captivated me.

I did feel rather stupid recommending to my dad because it reminded me of “Midsomer Murders” (one of my dad’s favourite British dramas) I the. Read the back flap to realise it was written by the same guy! I knew I recognised the name!!

Good choice ladies I really didn’t expect to enjoy it as much. I gave it 4 stars it would have got five but I worked out who was the murder in both 🤣

message 14: by Catherine (new)

Catherine Pinkett | 3 comments I've enjoyed this. 4* for me. Clever idea. I loved the Atticus Pund it was like reading a good old cosy crime.

message 15: by Trish (new)

Trish (jpolking) | 135 comments I am finally starting it tonight -can’t wait !!!

message 16: by Keriann (new)

Keriann (kad123) I enjoyed this novel, loved the concept of a book within a book and it found it was very clever, I enjoyed the Atticus Pund sections the best and had no idea who the killer was, I loved the cosy feel to it, I did enjoy the other section however I found the killers motive a bit unrealistic and it did spoil the book a little bit for me.. Gave it 3.75 but rounded up to four stars, will definitely pick more up by this author.

message 17: by Becky (new)

Becky (booksandbreggs) Kelly I liked this novel. I loved how there was an ongoing book inside the book. I felt it was a little bit long but I did enjoy the book itself. I gave it 4 stars.

message 18: by Beth (new)

Beth | 12 comments Enjoyed this book. Gave it 4 stars. Looking forward to the discussion. Bought his next one, The Word is Murder.
