Robert | 1 comments In the 90's or early 2000's I read a book at my school book fair about a girl that learns magic and the world takes magic very seriously with math and diagrams. She had to read a lot and draw circles to cast spells and other stuff, but that is all I can remember besides a specific part of the book.

There is a part where she is sitting in her backyard under a tree thats been there since she was little staring at the clouds and the leaves above her. After staring for a long time she notices patterns in the leaves and recognizes that the tree is talking to her through the patterns in the leaves and she can understand it.

Does anybody know the name of this book?

Here's the Google Books preview of So You Want to Be a Wizard by Diane Duane - Ayshe's suggestion - https://books.google.com/books?id=dfX... There are different cover images.
