It's the men's turn!

Share your three favourite male characters. :)

Barry (boprawira) | 1184 comments 1. Quick Ben from Malazan : super smart and amazing mage too, seem to have all the answers so far

2. Bran Stark : seems smart and wise beyond his years

3. Logen Ninefinger : just a bad ass guy all around

From outside SFF worlds my fave character is Hercule Poirot. Just a super eccentric genius with his little grey cells.

1. The Malazans. I could just fill the list with Rake, Quick, Whiskey, Kalam, Fidler, Karsa, Bug, Tehol, Kruppe, Brood, Dancer, Toc, Tool...........just one amazing character after another.

2. Kaladin and Dalinar. I have a hard time choosing between the two.

3. Glotka. Who knew torture could be so funny?

BTW when we do the worst three males characters I instantly heard a name on the wind.

Miche | 3174 comments 1. Anomander Rake
2. Cotillion
3. Dalinar Kholin

Honorable mentions: Kaladin, Hoid, Adolin.

Andrew | 653 comments Admittedly, it's typically easier for me to identify with male characters because, well, I'm a dude. So this is even harder to narrow down to 3 characters than it was for the ladies' list, and that was already super tough. So I'm going to cheat a little.

Favorite Tough Guy: Druss the Legend, with Logen Ninefingers as the runner-up.

Favorite Funny Guy: Locke Lamora. Special shout out to his partner in literal crime, Jean Tannen.

Favorite Character Development: Otah Machi from the Long Price Quartet

1. Anomander Rake (Malazan)

2. Locke Lamora (Gentleman Bastard Sequence)

3. Kaladin (Stormlight Archives)

Miche, I must say, you have great taste in fictional men.

message 8: by C.P. (new)

C.P. Cabaniss (cpcabaniss) | 1578 comments The three that came to mind first are:

1. Royce Melborn (Riyria)

2. Kaladin (Stormlight Archive)

3. Raithe (Legends of the First Empire)

There are far too many to list honorable mentions.

Honestly, they shaped my expectations towards all things male. There are people blaming Disney for too high expectations. Well, I blame Professor Tolkien. :D

You also have fantastic taste in fictional men ;)

message 21: by Silvana (new)

Silvana (silvaubrey) | 1818 comments I am confused, are the favorite characters supposed to be the males we want as life partners? I thought it's the characters we all enjoy to read. I love Amos but don't want to marry the guy obviously. I totally love Jean Tannen in whatever capacity, though.

Thanks, Jenna. It's really hard to narrow it to just three.

It doesn't matter, but generally, I think people are attracted to characters they like to read so that's why a lot of "book boyfriends" are coming up in this list.

message 24: by Silvana (new)

Silvana (silvaubrey) | 1818 comments Well, I'd love to have a top three book boyfriends thread someday 😄

message 25: by Caelena (new)

Caelena Fey (caelenabooktopia) | 6 comments 1. Percy Jackson (by Rick Riordan) : he's really my childhood memories that makes me fall in love with Greek mythology

2. Rhysand (The Court of Mist and Fury by Sarah J Mass) : I think he's in my top list of book boyfriends for now

3. Uciha Itachi (From Naruto manga/comics and NARUTO -ナルト- イタチ真伝 光明篇 Naruto: Itachi Shinden — Kōmyō-hen

Haha maybe sometime next year :) I don't want to put it too close to this thread discussion ;)

message 27: by Bea (new)

Bea | 2052 comments 1. Anomander Rake and Silchas Ruin from Malazan (I can't choose between my boys, so I have to mention them both)

2. Tyrion Lannister from ASoIaF

3. Sauron from the Lord of the Rings (probably a weird choice for a favorite character but I always found him super fascinating)

And yes to a book-boyfriend thread! :)

message 30: by Silvana (new)

Silvana (silvaubrey) | 1818 comments Both Jaime and Tyrion have great POV chapters. The Lannister boys are so witty and sarcastic.

message 36: by Bea (new)

Bea | 2052 comments Oh yes, I just read The Last Wish and liked Geralt so I'm curious if he will develop into a favorite during the following books :)

Saul the Heir of Isauldur (krinnok) | 209 comments Geralt is the best. He's like a rough, sword weilding, monster hunting teddy bear. Or, teddy wolf, I guess.
