Spacepig Pig | 1473 comments Well, Wiki tells us - nothing. But Bandcamp say that 'Electric Eye play droned out psych-rock inspired by the blues, India and the ever more expanding universe'. So that explains that then. I, for one, can't wait for this!

Usual rules and all that, noms in by 10pm on Sunday, provide links etc. I have no idea if his band have tracks on youtube or not, If not, Bandcamp should be able to help, they appear to have a few up there.

message 2: by theDuke (last edited Jun 21, 2018 03:24PM) (new)

theDuke | 5781 comments There should be enough to go around Spacepig..if not, folks can just choose a track off the albums which are on YT.

Here are the YT links for the three albums:
PU,LO,ST: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ope3K...
Diff. Sun: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_Gshg...
FTPT: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u1yjs...

(for the last album, the tracks are listed in the poster's OP)

There's not a lot on info on this band...but they are a 4 piece from Bergen Norway, that specialise in...as Spacepig says droned out psych-rock - inspired by the blues, India and the ever more expanding universe. To date, they have produced 3 albums; 2013's debut - Pick-Up, Lift-Off, Space, Time, 2016's Different Sun & their latest album, From The Poisonous Tree, released last year. A track from the latter was nom'd by me during the cream of rounds..which did well. All three albums are on YT with individual tracks displayed..so if you can't find a track on it's own, then just stipulate which track you want to nom from an album track list itself.

I'm not expecting a huge turn out for this one, but hopefully one or two of you will like something from this Nordic band...here's my nom to kick off..

theDuke | 5781 comments Thanks Lez! :) I ordered their entire back catalogue recently (still available from their label, but i'm still waiting for my order to arrive!), including the live album recorded at Bla, released on cassette! They're not too heavy or hippy as some of my other favs...and imo, do have a slight 'pop' style to their music, so ought to be easy on the ears for most of you!

Not bad Brassy, similar prices for new Cds can be found on Ebay too.

You can buy all three albums, on vinyl or Cd from the band's label, Jansen Records. Vinyl around £20, Cd's were £7.60..but looks like they bumped them up recently to around £10..cheeky! There's also a cassette of the live album for about the same price...glad I got mine a month ago, when they were a bit cheaper!

Spacepig Pig | 1473 comments All done then

A clear winner this week, running away with it, the maestro himself, Tech, with Heavy Steps On Desert Floor. Trotting into second place, the Duke himself with Tangerine, and filling the podium, but miles away from the winner, Spacepig with All Of This Has Happened Before And Will Happen Again

Good to see some appreciation for a lesser known band. Maybe just a bit too light for myself, I like my psych dark and menacing, but still, an interesting band.

theDuke | 5781 comments Thanks to all that participated again & congrats to Tech...nice choice mate! :)

Sounds like one or two of you appreciated their style of psyche...so job done.

And I've finally got an email from their label, telling me that they are finally posting my E. Eye bundle order out, only some 5 weeks after I placed it! Not as if they were POs neither.

It seems that, there was a cock up with their computer system, stating items being in stock, when they weren't, well..one item anyway. But good news is..they found all but one, and as a goodwill gesture, they're sending me a band signed limited edition gold fan pressing of From The Poisonous Tree, by way of an apology...apparently it'll be the only one signed out of 100 copies! :-D

When things work out in one's favour..eh! :)

Since you weren't in his presence at the time of signing, how do you know HE signed it? Never understood the need to get your cds defaced, especially by minor artists. I go to loads of gigs with an older, near-blind and partially deaf bloke who's not so great on his feet(!) and he's obsessed by getting things signed. We were the Hope Tavern on Sunday afternoon where they put a fortnightly blues band on, the scheduled band's main man had lost his voice so we got a stand in who were great despite the first meeting with the drummer being an hour before the show. The bassist was the wonderful Roger Iniss so Col produces, crumpled from his back pocket, the inner booklet from Greg Coulson's album and demands that Roger sign it because he was the studio bassist! He got a bit upset a while ago because Kaz Hawkins, from whom he bought all 3 cds at the gig, signed on the shrink-wrap rather than the cover. Mind you she had explained from the stage she was ceasing to play with her blues band because she was the writer, singer, manager, driver and merch sales person and was selling and signing between sets in the sweaty backroom of the Greystones pub. Always gets a T-shirt too. I asked him how many he had and suggested 200 but he replied more like 400! Not like he's got the bod for it either. He took a bag with cds in to Jeff Beck at Nott'ham Theatre Royal and asked the usher if they would take them backstage and get them signed. He was politely but firmly turned down. If I wasn't his driver with work in the morning he'd get a flophouse room and hang outside the stage doors till gone midnight to get the stuff scrawled on. Bands' eyes must light up when they see him coming.

message 37: by Tech XXIII (new)

Tech XXIII | 6727 comments don't think there's much danger of anyone pretending to be HIM (or god!)!

don't go out of my way to get things signed, but it's nice if it happens (pleased to have the pop groups' last two albums signed by stewart/sager), and a few things signed by jackie leven, my favourite signature of his being on a 'with compliments' slip;

"cheers craig, jackie leven (ya c***!)"

Lez | 7490 comments The only autograph I got on merchandise was from Henry Priestman (ex- The Christians) from whom I bought a mug. It was at the Green Hotel, Kinross where we were both staying. We got chatting at breakfast - he was born in Hull but brought up in Liverpool. A really nice man.
All my other autographs are in an autograph book and the only musicians I have are Frank Ifield and Anthony Newley. Quite a few actors though, including Alec Guinness and Donald Sinden.

Edit: i didn’t like Anthony Newley, he just happened to be on the bill.

Lez | 7490 comments I was seconded to the fantastic Liverpool Music Library every Thursday for a year. 2 of the Spinners were regulars. I always wanted to work there permanently but there were never any vacancies and they preferred staff who could at least read music!
One of the librarians there was the author Ramsey Campbell, befittingly eccentric!

The signed album wasn't originally a request from me, the label messed up my order, an offered me an alternative version of FTPT, of which the label owner said it would be signed, by way of an apology..so I said yes & thanks!

As for whether it is the frontman's signature..well I've no idea...but this is very small Nordic band ..and the owner of the label is friends with Øystein Braut, the founder of the band..i'd doubt he would be so deceiving....after all..i had just bought the band's entire back catalogue! :)

I don't have many other signed items, just the RSD 2018 Wire Nine Sevens boxset signed by Colin Newman, which I bought from a Brighton Record Store...Newman was there on the day to sign 100 copies of the boxset. That's the total extent of my autographed items.

message 42: by Val (last edited Jul 10, 2018 07:59AM) (new)

Val H. | 15737 comments I have a number of signed CDs mostly purchased at in-store events or at gigs. I don't usually seek out the artists to sign them but if it's fairly quiet, it can be nice to have a chat. Tim Minchin was looking rather lost and was delighted to talk to me and my daughters; likewise Eddi Reader is always fun to speak to. I ran into Boo Hewerdine in a record shop and had a lovely chat with him even though he is quite reserved. Swamp-pop rockers, Lil' Band O' Gold ("8 members, 25 egos, 6 livers") were great. The gorgeous C.C. Adcock couldn't believe (in 2010) that someone had a copy of his 1994 self-titled album (on the Island label and produced by Tarka Cordell). He happily signed it, plus "Wow!". He and the other band members Steve Riley, Warren Storm, Dickie Landry & the late Dave Egan all signed "The Promised Land" but Tommy McLain refused, saying he hadn't played on it. Fair enough.

I also have a number of autographed books but as I wasn't present when they were signed, who's to say whether they're genuine or not - Maeve Binchy, Sir Lew Grade, Don Revie, ...

Plus I have a Fosters beer tray, purchased from a charity shop over 20 years ago for a few pennies, signed by Dolly Parton - if I can believe it. I know she was in Australia around that time and it does look like her signature, but ....

Brass Neck | 3887 comments Another mate who is a celeb botherer was with me for a conference at Liverpool. Turns out Ultravox were practising for an upcoming tour and staying in our not-that-upmarket hotel. Fanboy dashes off to the HMV in L'pool One, buys a cheap copy of their greatest hits and then interrupts their breakfast to get it signed. There are limits, I know how I'd have felt at such an approach but they signed it (Billy Currie, don't think Midge Ure was spotted). My toes were curling.

I'm very jealous about Eric Morecambe! He was a great bloke in my eyes.

By coincidence, today I bought a children's book by Tim Minchin - When I Grow Up. Time was when a book came accompanied by a CD. Now it comes with something the size of a credit card which enables you to download the song.

Tim's song "Canvas Bags" is getting a lot of coverage here as the two biggest supermarket chains have at last banned single-use plastic bags.
