David Toth | 6 comments It was a pretty challenging read although it's a short book, the language is so lyrical, I often found myself rereading some sentences, either it was so well written or because I had simply lost af.
The poetic tone fades a bit in the second part of the book though. The story focuses the most on the child's perspective and emotions, some glimpses on the sailor's once-heroic attitude - both of these feels like a mixture of the author's. We have a mother as well, but barely she has any meaningful lines or characteristics, surely our man Mishima was not really into respecting whamen...
Oh yes, and there's a kid in the secret group of the child's, The Chief as they call him... all I could think of is that kid needs to be sent to the ranch.

Overall, it's a really good read, disturbing, to be sure, but a welcome one.
