I don't know what I will do. I'm upset I didn't start the first book with y'all. I 4 starred all the books but 3 starred this one and that's why I wanted to start again! Plus, I never get to read a book Niki is readying. Lol!

With all of my stacks I'm stressing over trying to read and get out of the way, I just don't know. Sigh

Don't stress just enjoy the buddy read with us. Maybe just start with this one; it is really easy to catchup with the developments and then you wouldn't be adding too much to your readload.

Oh man, I'm excited to get that far! I'm almost at the 25% mark now. (view spoiler)[ I'm enjoying the Marcus POV because I'm curious to see where it will lead.

I am a little surprised that it seems that Dawson was the only one who viewed the Spider Queen Priests so negatively. Everyone else seems to be awfully trusting and accepting of them so far, well except Clara of course. (hide spoiler)]

I've really bitten off way more than I can chew this time and am running behind lots of stuff. (*sigh*) Too many books left to read to finish my challenges for this year. And I'm thinking serves me right for leaving those aside in favour of stuff I just felt like reading!!

I am thinking that it might be because of (view spoiler)[their uncanny power. If people go to their temple and hear in the sermons lies they are persuaded to believe in then later they spread this belief, no? (hide spoiler)]

That definitely makes sense to me for the masses, (view spoiler)[ I just figured someone in the court besides Dawson would feel wronged by how much they seem to have Geder’s ear. You’re right, though, their powers of persuasion sure make them almost impossible to stand against, and that’s a good reason why not. (hide spoiler)]

Regarding the priests - (view spoiler)[I believe there are also other people who resent them. During that war meeting for instance, before they signed the paper to declare war, when Geder got lost in thoughts, and didn't hear a question he asked Basraship for his oppinion and the lords there didn't seem very happy about it. I think that whole talk implies at several times that the priests are mistrusted.
What I believe is that no one has the courage to stand up and say so because of what happened to Dawson and because of Geder's inquisition style of question/punishment trial. Fear rules and even if people dislike it they have to bow to it, for lack of another alternative. (hide spoiler)]

I've been reading a lot of Janny Wurts lately and in her books one also needs to analise the small details like gestures and facial expressions, or words said in a context which mean a totally different thing in another. Because each little detail has a meaning. Hence the above ananlysis. :D

Please tell me if I'm going overboard guys and I'll cut it down. :)

Regarding the telling (view spoiler)[I remember also that Dawson told her the priests were influencing their enemies in the fight by just talking and I also remember him telling her that Geder was looking to the priest for confirmation. But nothing else.
I don't think Dawson or anyone else ever noticed the spiders.
Plus Clara saw that for herself that time when they confronted Maas. The priest literally made him give up in front of Clara when they were trying to run away. So Clara must know those guys are a bit special, even if not exactly how special. (hide spoiler)]

Sorry I wasn’t more active posting here, just had a hectic week. I was able to finish this today. I really enjoyed it! And that epilogue! (view spoiler)[ I’d posted in an early update that I wanted to know more about the history with the dragons, and that snippet of it out of the epilogue was awesome! That history sounds so epic! I sure hope we get more in the next two. (hide spoiler)]

I reread that final chapter again, to make sure I caught everything. Seems like the biggest reveal there (view spoiler)[ is the fact that there is no spider goddess (which of course, Marcus and Master Kit figured after their adventure). Very cool that it turns out that the spider infection came from Morade. So, I'm speculating, but maybe we may find that Morade is still alive? A finale with a battle between Inys and Morade? Also, interesting that it was the third brother Asteril who helped create the magic swords, although I wonder why they have such a negative affect on people? Maybe, only a specific race of people are supposed to handle them? All fascinating stuff, I thought. (hide spoiler)]

Regarding the swords (view spoiler)[I thought that Morade created the spiders as a weapon and then later the infected invented the goddess. It is very human to invest divine properties in things not so divine. The swords are obviously the only thing able to kill the spiders; I like the idea that this weapon does not come without a cost. How many times there were magic swords and other trinkets that could be wielded by anyone like remote controls or other gadgets. At least here Abraham shows that it is not so easy. It is very Tolkienesque, I think and I like this a lot. (hide spoiler)]

Very true. (view spoiler)[ I had not made that Tolkien connection on the sword, but that does fit well. So, do you believe the warriors using them in the dragon war would have suffered the same way? Or maybe the large amount of time has made them more potent?

It makes sense that the priests would create the goddess to keep the masses in line. I wonder if the upper members of the order know the truth, or blindly follow the goddess idea themselves? Evidence of the fake spider statue sure seems to indicate they may know. (hide spoiler)]

I loved it too and the epilogue exceeded my expectations.
The race of warriors (view spoiler)[from what I understood are the Timzinae. Because of the scales.
There is smth about the upper members of that priesthood knowing the truth as Basrahip told Geder at one time: "You are her chosen and I am her basrahip." That name must mean smth more than just a name. It should be a title.
And remember the kids game Kit mentioned?! Every child was whispering smth in the ear of the next one and it went on and on that way until the truth became distorted and the kids would ultimately believe smth completely different then the original message? The priests may believe smth totally different now.

I think Morade may be sleeping the same way as Inys. Perhaps Morade is the one in the prologue? Remember the warning - if he wakes up we're fucked!
Inys' cave seemed different than the one in the prologue.

Also the spiders in the priests should supposedly all die when the goddess is killed. Substitute goddess with dragon and there you go. Kill Morade and all the tainted die.

The priest seemed also very eager to send Dar Cinlama out searching. My bet would be he's trying to find Morade and wake him up. (hide spoiler)]

I remember (view spoiler)[Dawson telling her about the priests' uncanny abilities and she also noticed it herself the night that guy got murdered, but she seems to have forgotten all about it. (hide spoiler)]

I think that Morade (view spoiler)[is dead though. That his weapon outlived him and thus it makes it even more difficult to get rid of it because surely the maker would know how to unmake it. Also, it kind of makes sense to assume that the dragons are all but extinct. I cannot see them return and take over the world again (hide spoiler)]

I have started the Widow's House but decided to wait for you for the pleasure of reading it together. I am only a couple of chapters in.

Glad everybody is loving this as much as I did. I think LPQ is the better series but cannot fault somebody for picking this one. They are both gems.
