A database of all the stories, Stranger Things enters the tie-in book world, a debate about speed-listening, and what Veronica REALLY thinks about Zeus.

Jen | 229 comments Veronica - So much solidarity about the hubby who likes to listen to podcasts way too fast while folding laundry! My husband and I listen to a lot of the same podcasts, but usually not together, except when folding laundry. He'll start one on his phone and suddenly I hear Tom's voice talking about tech news at top speed.

Never heard of it before this podcast, but "Mortal Engines" looks fun :-)

I'm just going to use this as an opportunity to plug the new and updated FAQ thread!

Thanks again to Nick for the old thread that Veronica referenced in this podcast. It predated my time here in the group (first created in April of 2012) and was of great use when I first joined.

The Kindle thread has been around since November of 2011 and has had over 2000 posts (2382 at the time of this post; albeit not all of them posting a new deal)

terpkristin | 4222 comments Thank you for finally saying what "Eleven" referred to. I kind of laughed out loud that you guys started talking about a book about Eleven and I'm probably the only one who didn't get it.

Otherwise a fun show. I got to listen to it doing my morning things and getting coffee - it's rare I can finish a show in that time (I didn't even speed it up!).

I speed up audiobooks to Audible's 1.25x setting, but podcasts are 1x always. For reasons.

Silvana (silvaubrey) | 1678 comments I LOL-ed listening to this episode (on speaker) while doing my laundry. What are the odds.

The Kindle thread is one of the my favorite thing from this group. And for those who can't live without deals, I'd like to recommend subscribing to Book Riot's mailing list for deals. https://bookriot.com/category/deals/ It is a pretty comprehensive list updated every day and they still list books from yesterday/last week/month if the deal is still valid.

I could have sworn I made a post about the movie in the TV/Movie section but it looks like I didn’t. I must have just referenced it within another thread.

Richard | 99 comments I listen to Tom and Veronica at 1.5. They would probably sound weird to me at normal speed.

David H. (farrakut) I listen to podcasts at 1.3x except for Levar Burton Reads (my only audio fiction). I sometimes put my nonfiction history podcasts at a lower speed like 1.1x or 1.2x if they're giving me a lot of info and it's hard to keep straight.

Dara (cmdrdara) | 2702 comments Okay this may sound weird but I always listen to podcasts at 1x speed, especially S&L, because it almost feels like I'm part of the conversation that way. When I'm listening, I'll often respond out loud to what T&V say. I do this with other conversational podcasts I listen to as well. Things like IRL I like at 1x as well because I enjoy the production of it. I want to enjoy it the way it's intended.

As for book deals, I have the Kindle Daily Deals bookmarked so I check it every morning (here). Also under the Goodreads settings, there's a "Deals" section. You can choose your preferences and Goodreads will send you a daily email with deals from your chosen retailers.

Oh my gosh I thought I had spaced out or something, I had no idea what they were talking about either until they said the name of the show later on.
