C.P. Cabaniss (cpcabaniss) | 1578 comments Going to try the audio for this one.

Virginie | 5795 comments Brandon Sanderson!

Michael | 31 comments Great book! I will join in when the next book comes out. Love me some chaulklings!

Diana Stormblessed (dashichka) | 3909 comments I'll probably join in this one. My end of July is pretty empty and I love this book.

message 8: by Kevin (new)

Kevin Fantasy Series Junkie | 13 comments In the middle of the wheel of time but I think I’m gonna take a break for this one. Loved Mistborn and Stormlight so looking forward to it!

Same! I'm trying to join, too :)

Emily | 306 comments Awww man! I put this in my phone as starting today....I'm so disappointed now, lol! Rescheduling to the 25th. *facepalm*

C.P. Cabaniss (cpcabaniss) | 1578 comments I've done that before, Emily.

Emily | 306 comments C.P. wrote: "I've done that before, Emily."

Glad I'm not alone, haha 😅

message 13: by C.P. (new) - rated it 5 stars

C.P. Cabaniss (cpcabaniss) | 1578 comments Definitely not alone. I've started a couple and then realized I had them set up for a week or two later. It can be annoying if I'm already gripped by the story.

Emily | 306 comments C.P. wrote: "Definitely not alone. I've started a couple and then realized I had them set up for a week or two later. It can be annoying if I'm already gripped by the story."

Oh yea I bet. I'd marked it as "currently reading" but thankfully hadn't actually started it yet, so it's all good...I can wait...

C.P. Cabaniss (cpcabaniss) | 1578 comments I started this one today. I've only listened to one chapter so far, but really liking it. I read it a few years ago and remember enjoying it a lot, so hopefully that is the case this time as well.

I'm worried I've read so much Sanderson lately, that eventually I'll start a Sanderson book and hit some sort of Sanderson Burnout that sours the book for me... hasn't happened yet, tho... I'll be reading this sometime this next week, once I'm caught up on all the books I was supposed to start yesterday...

message 18: by C.P. (new) - rated it 5 stars

C.P. Cabaniss (cpcabaniss) | 1578 comments You've read more than me lately, but I'm actually enjoying his stuff more right now than I did at the end of last year. I should have held off reading Oathbringer when it first came out. But it's better on reread, so I guess there was good to come from it.

message 19: by C.P. (new) - rated it 5 stars

C.P. Cabaniss (cpcabaniss) | 1578 comments Listened through chapter 5. liking the audio, but I do miss all of the illustrations of the rithmatic lines.

Emily | 306 comments I also started this one a bit early (though not July 15th like I originally thought....smh) getting through it pretty quickly so far. Not a huge fan of math tbh, so a math based magic system is kind of weird. Liking the characters so far though.

I'm slowly catching up on all the books I was supposed to read this weekend... should arrive on time-ish...

message 22: by C.P. (new) - rated it 5 stars

C.P. Cabaniss (cpcabaniss) | 1578 comments I actually have a degree in math, so I love that aspect of it.

message 23: by Timelord Iain, Tech Support (new) - rated it 4 stars

Timelord Iain | 18078 comments Mod
I have a math minor so I'm intrigued... I majored in computer science (then failed to get a job with it until I stopped trying), so I took 1 extra math class to get the minor...

Virginie | 5795 comments Oh, I love math! I think I'm going to love this magic system :D

You guys should check out Ninefox Gambit... mathy religion in space... the enemy used Calendrical Heresy... bad calendars... to disrupt society...

The end of the trilogy just came out in June and I lost track and never did the Buddy Read...

Anni | 5048 comments I'm starting todaaay! 🙌

Delitealex | 403 comments Started last night haven't gotten to far yet but enjoying the magic so far.

I have it on my list. So I will probably read it one day.

Virginie | 5795 comments C.P. wrote: "I have it on my list. So I will probably read it one day."

Haha.

"It's on my TBR, so I should manage to get to it before I die. Probably. If I stop adding to said TBR."

message 32: by C.P. (new) - rated it 5 stars

C.P. Cabaniss (cpcabaniss) | 1578 comments Exactly, Virginie.

Plus I keep rereading things.

Emily | 306 comments Hahaha I think I'm reading with the wrong group of people if you all like math....or maybe it will give me a deeper understanding of the magic....we shall see 😊

Michael Kramer reads EVERYTHING, I swear... I expected younger narrator for this...

message 35: by C.P. (new) - rated it 5 stars

C.P. Cabaniss (cpcabaniss) | 1578 comments Yeah, and while Kramer is growing on me, I still am not in love with his narration. I think I would have liked a younger sounding reader for this. Nick Podehl might have been nice. I think I've only listened to one of this, but I liked it.

My phone is messed up. Might have to end up getting a new one, but not sure when exactly. So I may not be able to listen for a couple of days. :( I'm going into audio withdrawals.

Virginie | 5795 comments Starting! Woot woot :D

Hooray! :)

I'm ~27% done and I like it even more this time around because I feel like I understand a little more right from the start. On my first read some I needed a little time to work out how exactly this world works ;)

I also really liked (view spoiler)

The beginning of this kinda reminds me of White Sands... just the really wanting to be a magic practitioner part, I guess...

I started this morning and got REALLY sidetracked... like 3hrs hopping between Year 2 threads and book game threads, distracted...

Diana Stormblessed (dashichka) | 3909 comments Finally starting this one tonight. I remember not loving the beginning but really getting sucked into it later on. And for what it's worth I suck at math, too.

Agreed! Very intereating that its a more "our world" setting but still different.

And no worries. I'm also not keen on maths....though we might be the only..."

Most of Sanderson's YA stuff plays in Alternate Earths... this series has Nebrask and Georglanta or whatever it was called... Reckoners has Newcago... Skyward with it's sci-fi setting is the first truly, non-Earth YA series, I think...

Finished... worst part of the book is that there's no news on when the sequel is coming out... between Wheel of Time, Oathbringer delays, and the problems with the Apocalypse Guard that led to Skyward, his schedule is too packed to get it done anytime soon (unless it's the secret project he's working on)...

From what I read on Coppermind, even tho is came out in 2014, it was actually first drafted in 2007...

Oh... and the ending was way too abrupt, for my tastes... I could have used a few more chapters... no wonder he says this book promises at least 1 sequel... I could read an entire series in this world, tho...

Andorion (ruineleint) 12 chapters done.

I have some issues
