It's in the same "coming to know yourself" style. with colorful anecdotes and globetrotting. Has got me thinking about the people who've fed me (literally and figuratively), and also about the years and years I felt like a fraud taking communion.

Kimberly | 6 comments From p 47: "In big ways and small, I knew exactly how selfish a war could make me, and I saw all around me how fear and need drove other people to terrible betrayals. Yet over and over, I also saw how war created a community... nourished by gestures of sharing. It was sharing that didn't depend on personal intimacy, and a community that didn't depend on everyone's being friends; it foreshadowed what I would come to understand as church, at its best."
I think this is perhaps God's vision of church--an intentional community that CHOOSES to not let fear and terrible things justify insular living, a community in which people remind one another that we there are always other options.
