Hey guys!
So I was recently made aware that "Silver Metal Lover" is not available on Kindle. Sad, it's a great book.

For those who solely read on the Kindle I have a few options.

"Games of Command by Linnea Sinclair is quite good. We read one of her first books last year and it went over badly, but I did enjoy this one quite a bit. It's not solely about cyborg/human interaction, but one of the lead romances involves a cyborg.

Here's an additional list of Robot/Human romances.
https://www.goodreads.com/list/show/1...

Unfortunately most of these are hard core erotica (a problem in this genre). The one I had looked to check out before that seemed interesting was:
https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/1...

I haven't finished it so I can't vouch, but of the top choices it seems the least erotica driven.

Feel free to choose amongst yourself, if you are in the "no paper" camp, and discuss away!
XOXO
Felicia

Livana | 94 comments Oh no! I haven't even tried to get Silver Metal Lover yet but thank you for letting me know. I have both Kindle and Nook. Does anyone know if it is available through the Nook Library?

message 3: by Brittany (new)

Brittany (nerdyspinster) | 255 comments Thanks Felicia! I'll probably try the Linnea Sinclair one if I can't find a used copy of Silver Metal Lover anywhere. I doubt even Half Priced Books will come through for me this time with this month's alt, so it's good to have an alt-alt on backup!

Malaraa | 335 comments It's only a (very) short story, but Eros, Philia, Agape about an android/human marriage is available to read for free on tor.com and was very good. Primarily about emotional connections instead of physical love, so not going to satisfy on the smut-meter, but a nice story.

Lindsay (the_great_linzini) | 56 comments Thanks Felicia! - That means so much to me, you have no idea!

I was a voracious reader for years until my narcolepsy made it next to impossible. I finally gave up about 9 years ago when it took me almost a year to finish The Life of Pi. It was... beyond horrible.

Then this past Christmas my brother-in-law bought my daughter a Kindle. When I was setting it up for her, I discovered I could read on it without falling asleep. - I'm not gonna' lie, I was so happy, I totally cried.

So, now I'm making up for lost time. I love that I can be a part of a book club again. - Especially one comprised of such wonderfully like-minded nerd girls.

Anyway, sorry for the mushy outburst. I just wanted you to know how much this group/your alt recommendations mean to me.

Keidy | 313 comments @Felicia: Thanks for the pick! I was actually just looking over that same Robot/Human romance list earlier today and didn't find much that wasn't hard-core in the sex department. I was looking more for a romance. I definitely will check out Games of Command though. It looks promising and maybe I can make believe that the cyborg is Adam Jensen from Deus Ex. Yup. I think that's what just I'll do. <3

Adam Jensen: Deus Ex

Kari | 32 comments Well, that's....odd....

I checked out The Silver Metal Lover on amazon.com, and I had no trouble ordering it for my kindle...

Maybe its a country-case restriction? That happens. In that case at least Norwegian kindle readers can read it.

Thanks for the heads up though!

Apparently it is available for Kindle at Amazon UK, where you likely bought it, but not in the US or Canada stores. https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/... starting at message 7

Brittani (alwaysplayarogue) | 3 comments I got a copy of Silver Metal Lover at thriftbooks.com for under $4 with free shipping. I think they still have copies. You can choose what location you order from so if you can find a place in or near your state, you could probably get it in just a of couple days.

Otherwise, Ghost in the Machine is pretty good so far. And it's free on Kindle. I've read some of C.E. Kilgore's other works and they're pretty solid. I think this was her first book or at least really feels like it. She has a little one shot about one of her android characters called To Even Have Dreams that is a cute little romantic story (although there is sex, it's not super smutty). I'd definitely check her work out if you're looking for something androidy that isn't super pornographic.

Amber (puresurplus) | 53 comments I was sad that my library didn't have either book. I bought the MAIN but skipping the ALT this time as I'm almost positive that Cinder doesn't count since it's pretty tame YA! Would anyone else read this with me?

message 11: by Anna (new)

Anna | 135 comments I read the first three books in the series that starts with Cinder and I really enjoyed them. I think the second is even better than the first. I'd be happy to jump on a thread to discuss Cinder with whoever would like to!!!

Yay! Hopefully, there will be more of us. I know that it is a very popular series. I just haven't had time to get around to it yet. This seems like the perfect excuse!

Here is the Cinder discussion thread: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

Lindsay (the_great_linzini) | 56 comments I've now added "Games of Command," "Ghost in the Machine," and "Cinder," to my queue!

(The show show I work on is on hiatus for two months, I guess that means more cyborg romance for me!). :p

message 14: by Brittany (last edited Aug 01, 2014 11:02AM) (new)

Brittany (nerdyspinster) | 255 comments Who else will be reading Games of Command instead of Cinder for the Alt-Alt? Should we make a thread for that too?

I might read Cinder also, but I'm in the mood for something more adult than YA, so Games of Command seems to be the winner for me at the moment.

message 15: by Ylva (new)

Ylva (ylvazuckerwatte) | 6 comments I looked for the Kindle version of "Silver Metal Lover" at Amazon Germany and could find it there (in English). But the alt alts sound interesting too. I wish I had more time to read…!

message 16: by Susan (new)

Susan | 30 comments I bought Silver Metal Lover for my Kindle earlier this year no problems, and it still seems to be available.
However, I do not seem to be able to order the main pick (He, She and It) on Kindle.

Hmm now that is even more odd. I never buy from the UK site, as it has always in the past told me I had to go to the US site. I just went to amazon.co.uk, and it doesn't have The Silver Metal Lover book as a kindle, but the amazon.com site has it available....

Brittany (nerdyspinster) | 255 comments I'm making a discussion thread for Games of Command if anyone is interested in reading it for the Alt-Alt. :)

EDIT: Here's the discussion thread for Games of Command: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...
