Kaje Harper | 16812 comments Who are these two teens? Did they make the shirts for a special reason? Tell us the story in poem, flash fiction, short story - whatever you're inspired to write. Just keep it YA and LGBTQ. Use more than one box if needed. Please mark the end of your writing with a symbol (####) or "the end". And have fun! This prompt will be up for June and July, and remember you can write for older prompts too.

Kaje Harper | 16812 comments Because we are allowed to play around with these too (with deep apologies to Tolkien , Frodo and Sam Gamgee)

When evening in the mall was grey
Your footsteps down the hall were heard
Before curfew you went away
To homework long without a word

From math to history and more
From poets strange to writing skill
Through oral prep you paced the floor
Then called me late, and talked our fill

We talked of girls, we talked of men
Of kind and homophobic folk
Of mom asleep and dad in den
A secret language we two spoke

I love your smile, your gentle hand
The way you want to share the load
Your quiet voice, your strength to stand
As we set out upon this road

I told you how my father sat
Swift in anger, scornful laugh,
I couldn't leave, he told me that
His words could cut our dreams in half

I've never felt so all alone
As mom and dad I both defied
I packed, as down a pale moon shone
I knew our family had died

But you're the best I've ever seen
Your love will wash my bruised soul clean
And after tears that flow like showers
It's you and I, tomorrow's flowers.

:D

Benjamin Appleby-Dean (benjaminappleby-dean) | 69 comments That's a really clever take on it, Kaje - very prettily worded.

Benjamin Appleby-Dean (benjaminappleby-dean) | 69 comments I got to thinking about the story behind the shirts instead:

They lied - she wasn't sleeping when I found her
But tearing up her sheets to bind her hands
Still bleeding as she fought the thorns around her
Determined to resist the spell's demands

They lied - it was no prince who came to wake me
But some madwoman in a tattered gown
Who tore away the briars that tried to bind me
And rode into my room wearing a crown

They lied about the way the story ended
No unconsenting kiss as beauty slept
But by our waking love the curse was mended
A promise made we never could expect
