Peter Every method and every substance has it's positive and negative effect. In homeopathy they say that "only effects" exist. And they are right, because you take in a remedy like Ginkgo and it will exhibits its effect on your organism and there are no side effects, just effects. Therefore a good knowledge on these substances is required and a bit of experimentation.

For example Ginkgo is a substance known in TCM for raising "heart energy" (Yang aspect) and to take Ginkgo in the morning or at lunchtime is OK. But if you take it later in the evening it raise yang energy of the heart meridian and this cause other effects like sleeplessness and jumpiness.

The book Natural Highs by Hyla Cass and Patrick Holford , describes a lot of supplements and foods which helps to get a "natural high" or even acts as natural nootropics.

Another alternative or complementary approach is homeopathy. This therapy can act very deep and resolve blockages which hinders one to unleash the full potential of brainpower. It is known for example that some kids who needed the remedy Calcarea carbonica afterwards not only got a better health, but they also got better at school, especially in math. There are a lot of example in homeopathy which backup this experience and I think we should consider homeopathy as a "secret method" which requires more attention.

A good book to start is Emotional Healing with Homeopathy: Treating the Effects of Trauma. When emotions are impaired by traumatic experiences it is normal that also intelligence is limited.
