Robin | 18 comments Mom is a an alcoholic who doesn't leave her room. Three oldest kids are teens, youngest is not dad's and is about 8. She is fascinated with Aslan, the lion from the Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. Eldest child struggles to pay bills and keep the family together.

Robin, around what year did you read this YA novel?

What's the time period and location (country, region, big city/small town)?

Do the kids (how many?) live alone with the woman?

Cupcakedoll's suggestion of A Door Near Here by Heather Quarles looks promising.

"Her single mother, an out-of-work alcoholic, has been in bed for weeks, leaving Katherine and her three younger siblings to band together and fend for themselves." One Goodreads reviewer says, "The youngest sister believes fervently in Aslan, and wants to find a “door near here” to Narnia, because she believes Aslan can help their mother."
