Bujinkan? Maji De? That's amazing. Is there a dojo here? Another something interesting about you. I thought about joining Aikido with the nephews but then they stopped going.

Yeah I completely understand, your also a voracious writer. I sent you moderator privileges so you can just play around with the art work and settings etc. This will grow slowly but it will be really nice to network with other authors, don't you think?

message 3: by Anderson (new)

Anderson Atlas | 4 comments the dojo is in Vail, but I attend weeknight classes at Himmel park. I'm not too serious, but I love learning the art. it's less a sport and more a study in ancient techniques. facebook search: Tucson Bujinkan Dôjô those are my trainers.

I'll do a logo, too. give me a few days.

That's very cool.

Yeah take your time. Like I said this will take a while to grow but ill start tracking down AZ authors and slowly trying to migrate them to this page. The more the merrier. Plus it would be really nice to start gathering together with each other when indie author events happen.

I emailed the staff at ComicCon and asked if they would be open to a local author booth for authors/illustrators that fall within the comic/gaming genre. Ill post any information I get back from them here.

@Anderson Atlas,

I was asked by an elderly person if my book would be available in an audio book. What was your audio book experience like, what kind of recommendations/ do's/ dont's do you have if any?

message 8: by Andres (new)

Andres Rodriguez (aroddamonster) | 240 comments Mod
I just want to apologize to everyone if it feels like I am bombarding the group with information. I just want to share with everyone anything I find that might help make their book or author experience that much more successful!

If there is anything you want to add, if you want moderator privileges, by all means just ask. I am not here to be in charge of this group, this is a mutual network and everyone is welcome to contribute and put in effort.

You're doing fine. It seems like this group is still getting set up, and there should be more interaction when there are more members.

message 10: by Andres (new)

Andres Rodriguez (aroddamonster) | 240 comments Mod
Thanks Gail. I'm all over trying to find and recruit more members, kinda bugging people lol but I hope the real magic happens when an actual encounter happens. Hey, your so and so!

So... Your dystopian romance... I read Marie Lu's Legend Trilogy. Where are you drawing your inspiration from? Did you already create your blurb?

message 11: by Gail (new)

Gail Gibbs (gailanngibbs) | 36 comments It's a little more similar to Marissa Meyer's Cinder, with sort of a post-apocalypse thing going on. The war is over, and they try to find love in the ruins.

message 12: by Andres (new)

Andres Rodriguez (aroddamonster) | 240 comments Mod
Ah, I haven't read Cinder yet. However, if you need any help please don't hesitate to ask. I may not be a crackerjack writer but I can offer a second set of eyes.

I talked to Sara Fujimara and she's happy to be in the network of the GCAC. She just does not get on goodreads very much.

Has anyone recorded their book in an audio version? Some of my aunts are asking about audio, I looked into faraway voices but it seems pretty pricey. $80-200 per completed hour(not sure what that means)

Has anyone had a good experience or a different recommendation?

message 17: by Germaine (last edited Jul 20, 2018 08:14AM) (new)

Germaine Shames (germaineshames) | 6 comments Hey, there, Andres. Yes, I had my novel You, Fascinating You recorded for Audible through their ACX. I found an experienced producer, then selected a brilliant narrator, and was able to negotiate a royalty share agreement. I couldn't be more pleased with the quality of the audiobook.

Lauren Grossman (laurenbgrossman) | 15 comments Hi Germaine,
My question would be: Did recording on Audible boost sales.=, and was it financially worth it?

message 19: by Andres (new)

Andres Rodriguez (aroddamonster) | 240 comments Mod
Thanks Germaine,

I'll have to look into their information a little deeper, see what I can share with everyone. I wonder who Anderson Atlas used for his book?

message 20: by Germaine (new)

Germaine Shames (germaineshames) | 6 comments Hey there, Lauren. Excellent question. Because the book had won an award, and because I had a modest track record, a producer was willing to work on a royalty-share basis, so there was no upfront cost for me.

So far, I have not sold the volume of downloads I had hoped for, but the audio market is growing and I'm in for the long haul.

Stay inspired!

Germaine,

Great point, the audio market is growing especially with the smart phones spreading through older and younger readers a like. Now its a simple free download and your able to listen to thousands of books while you drive, ride the bus or simply clean the house. Like many other things that used to happen, taking the time to sit down and curl up to a good book is fading away.

I want to believe that the more formats of your book available, ebook, audio, different language, and etc. will all increase your sales although it might not be significant, its an increase. We want to reach every potential reader available so when our next books come out we hopefully have follow up readers and word of mouth recommendations. A the same time we don't want to spend 450 dollars for 3 new readers. I'll keep researching companies so everyone can have as much information as possible when making the choice to add a different format for their work.

Lauren Grossman (laurenbgrossman) | 15 comments Bummer. I leave for Prague on the 13th. There is also a local writer's event happening when I am gone, at the Jewish Community Center.
Timing is everything.

Andres Rodriguez (aroddamonster) | 240 comments Mod
Absolutely. That's what this network is about, helping each other out. I haven't received a reply from Miriah yet about a Tucson event but, if I don't receive a reply by the end of this week I'll contact bookman's directly. Maybe she is no longer affiliated with them.

message 28: by Andres (new)

Andres Rodriguez (aroddamonster) | 240 comments Mod
I'm also going to see about creating a GCAC group on facebook. This way we can reach authors that are not on GoodReads.com.

message 29: by Andres (new)

Andres Rodriguez (aroddamonster) | 240 comments Mod
Okay, no response from Miriah still, im going to re-contact bookmans. See if we can get a date put on their calendar before this year end.

message 30: by Cricket (new)

Cricket Rohman | 23 comments Whether you are a reader or a writer, The Payson Book Festival is a great event. I've participated as an author the past two years. It features Arizona Authors only, and it's always held the 3rd Saturday in July in Payson, AZ. Authors begin to sign up in December. I will keep you posted as I receive future information.

message 31: by Andres (new)

Andres Rodriguez (aroddamonster) | 240 comments Mod
Wow that's great! Hopefully we can expand the network and run into more GCAC members at these events. That would be fun. I'd love to grow this where we can have a real nice time at these events. Someone you can talk with when you get writers block or even just someone you can trust a bit to watch your books if you have to use the restroom ya know.

I have received no response from the bookman's liaison or from bookmans northwest. I'll keep trying, maybe they had a position change and no one is answering those emails? Either that or they are avoiding me lol. No worries, I'll keep trying, hang in there friends.

message 33: by Cricket (new)

Cricket Rohman | 23 comments My only experience was with the east side Bookman’s. Who are you addressing your emails too?

message 34: by Andres (new)

Andres Rodriguez (aroddamonster) | 240 comments Mod
The contact us on the bookman's website since the liaison who contacted me last time is non responsive.

message 35: by Cricket (new)

Cricket Rohman | 23 comments I had the same problem. Eventually, I made a phone call. (that was about 2 years ago)

At that time, the person in charge of the book event, put me on her email list. She sends out the information once or twice a year.

message 36: by Andres (new)

Andres Rodriguez (aroddamonster) | 240 comments Mod
This time I sent it to info@bookmans just to see if in general someone non specific can direct me but I might have to go down there before the year is over. I'd really like to try and get a few of us together maybe twice a year, especially when the snow birds are down. October - April. After that its just too hot and uncomfortable.

message 37: by Andres (new)

Andres Rodriguez (aroddamonster) | 240 comments Mod
Okay, none of my emails have received responses so ill probably end up calling this weekend. I appreciate everyone's patience, I'm sorry this is taking so long.

If anyone would like to try and get us together at a similar place, bookstore etc. let me know how I can help. Especially now that it's going to start cooling down we could host something outside in the beautiful AZ winter weather. Have a great weekend, talk to you soon.

message 38: by Cricket (new)

Cricket Rohman | 23 comments I've got so many projects going on right now, I don't spend much time on social media, sorry, and I get behind. So... when you say "get us together" do you mean for the purpose of selling our books or just to meet and talk with each other, or ???
Do we all (or some of us) have published books (paperback) ready to sell? I've got 8.

message 39: by Andres (new)

Andres Rodriguez (aroddamonster) | 240 comments Mod
I expect everyone to be busy that's why I'll try to reach out to more AZ authors on social media but don't worry Cricket there are not a lot of author events in the year. Mostly when it cools down and people come out of their A/C lol. I would just like to have the ability to notify anyone that might not have the time to check GRs.

Wow 8 you're amazing. I'd like to get us together for the purpose of selling books but we will be there for a few hours so I'm sure the more we meet the more we'll chat. Well, some of us. There are quite a few local bookstores and if someone wanted to try and coordinate a local author bookselling/signing thing to try and see the turn out, that would be awesome. I myself only have one at the moment but I know Anderson is a book writing monster and he has quite a few books to sell as well. Of course, the more we can sell the more the more we can share our stories and really, that's what success is as a writer I think.

So if three or four of us show up and sell books, that could be fun. If 15 show, well then its a party.

Cricket Rohman | 23 comments Thanks Andres, Yes finding venues, especially ones that aren’t pricy, is a challenge. I’m in Colorado now. I found my newest novel, Colorado Takedown, is well received here.

I just went to Sam's club yesterday 23Apr19 and they have the square readers for android/apple there for 8 dollars. I think it actually came out to 6 and some change. I purchased one because Mr. Doty recommended it to me a long time ago and I thought I would pass on the word.

Its inexpensive and offers your future customers a very nice convenience if you don't already have one.
