Trike | 8962 comments I meant to post this a couple weeks ago but it slipped my mind. There’s an amazing auction of movie and TV memorabilia happening today, tomorrow and Thursday (June 5, 6 & 7), from the Profiles in History folks.

Here’s the 500-page catalog:

The original dropship miniature from Aliens!
Barbarella’s raygun!
The Rocketeer’s helmet!
The original Flying Sub!
A chariot from Ben-Hur!
Original KITT miniatures!
Just all kinds of famous laser guns and movie swords (Excalibur) and outfits and even vehicles.

Makes me wish I had a spare million bucks lying around.

BTW - the menu brings up a windowpane in the upper right hand corner showing thumbnails of the various pages, so you can skip to the ones you want to see.

Mer | 187 comments Awesome! Who wouldn't want that force field belt from Lynch's Dune or Decker's gun from the original Blade Runner?

Louie (rmutt1914) | 885 comments There was a joint auction a few years ago by TCM and Bonhams that included one of the original Golden Tickets from Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, given to one of the crew by the director, Mel Stuart.

Also, I always hear about these auctions from Tested, because Adam Savage is always getting items from them sent to him.

John (Nevets) Nevets (nevets) | 1651 comments Well Trike, I see you put in an early bid for the personal shield generator belt from Dune, but not the mole rat drink?

I suppose you are just waiting to snipe in at the last second for the mole drink. ;-)

I've gone through the list for the first few days. And while most of the stuff that I found really cool and might want was priced out of my range. There were a handful of items I was surprised were starting as low as they were. A good example would be the "Gleaming the Cube" skateboard. That would be a pretty key prop from a movie that while not hugely popular, helped make Christian Slater into the star he became. (Note: there are a few images online of him with what is supposed to be that board, and it looks a bit different, so I don't know how much this one was used on set.)

Or even this from "Total Recall". Not an iconic prop, but something distinctly recognizable if you know the scene. Flip it upside down and put a glass top on it, and for a few hundred bucks you have a very cool table, with some film history.

I'm not going to bid on anything, but it's for this reason that it is fun to keep an eye on auctions like this for some hidden gems. Thanks Trike for bringing it up.

I'm not a collector type but some of that stuff really triggered my inner (acquisitive) child. I found myself deeply wanting Obi Wan's chest until I saw the price.
I'm a little surprised that Wonderboy from the Natural was "only" $6k and not at all surprised that the swords and lasers were relatively higher priced than the other items.
