A devastating injustice rages across America. It’s the theft of private property for private gain, or as the lawyers call it, eminent domain. By any name, it spells one fate for its victims: the loss of their homes and dreams.

Jack Cade is back from Iraq with a bad conduct discharge, an addiction to opioid painkillers, and a case of survivor’s guilt—the aftermath of an IED attack that killed seven Iraqi soldiers in his squad. When the eviction epidemic arrives at his doorstep, Cade’s drawn into a fight to protect the apartment complex where he lives, which is also home to thousands of Salvadoran tenants. But he won’t fight unopposed: a real estate developer and a vicious gang leader are determined to crush Cade and his neighbors, no matter the cost.

When nervous investors abandon the deal, the developer and the city turn to ‘eminent domain’—the controversial seizure of private property for public use. The threat of a land grab that will displace thousands of tenants raises profound spatial justice questions as to what is legal versus what is moral.

Will Cade and his neighbors prevail, or will the community become the latest victim of gentrification? Inspired by true events, “Cade’s Rebellion” leads readers on a perilous journey about one man’s efforts to reclaim his soul and one community’s fight for its share of the American dream.

Will (wlinden) | 3 comments Sorry, I thought this would be about the historical Jack Cade.

Edward Sheehy (httpwwwedwardsheehycom) | 2 comments Will: My novel was inspired by the actions and events of the historical Jack Cade. Several historical parallels are woven into the story and plot to make the story relevant in a contemporary setting and time. Historical Jack Cade is a fascinating figure and certainly deserves more attention in fiction and non-fiction. ---Edward Sheehy
