I read this book about five years ago in grade four, but i don’t remember it very well. It was about a young girl (possibly named something along the lines of Emma, but I could be wrong) who is moved to a new foster home. She is a troublemaker, but soon befriends the old blind/deaf (I think he was blind, but I don’t remember for certain) man who lives next door. She reads to him and he trusts her.

Near the end, she sneaks into the old man’s house and steals some of his money. She then runs away, and at least gets as far as the train station, but I don’t remember what happens after that.
