Prateek Sazawal (sazawal) | 28 comments Hello,

I don't know why my earlier request was unanswered, so I am posting again.

The existing edition of the book is Hardcover. I own a Paperback edition and requesting to add the same with additional details, which are probably missing in the existing edition.

Title: Shyam Benegal's The Churning (Manthan)
Translator: Samik Bandyopadhyay
Pages: 99
Publisher: Seagull Books, Calcutta
Format: Paperback
Language: English
Description (from the back cover):
"In The Churning (Manthan), Shyam Benegal, one of India's major directors, tackles a problem that has rarely been touched in Indian cinema-the process through which a tradition-bound community, where vested interests uphold the tradition, learns to redefine the relations of production and adopt new initiatives. Set in contemporary India, it brings a group of urban social workers to a village where they would like the milk producers to organize themselves into a co-operative. Traditions of exploitation and unquestioning submission to the system would not let the villagers come together and take a stand. The city group has its own equally inhibitory limitations. But as the latter retreat under pressure, the former discover their potential. While Benegal's social analysis is complex an uncompromising, his style is smooth and simple, and even poetic; and, as it is usual with him, woman plays a central role in the slow unfolding of the social phenomena. With several awards to its credit, The Churning is considered by many to be Benegal's most representative work.

The script, as it appears in print, is a reconstruction and translation based on a shot-by-shot viewing of the film."

Another request:
There seems to be two profiles of the author on Goodreads. Vijay Dhondopant Tendulkar: https://www.goodreads.com/author/show...
and
Vijay Tendulkar: https://www.goodreads.com/author/show...
Please merge them.

Prateek Sazawal (sazawal) | 28 comments Hi,

The ISBN of the Paperback I have happens to be the same as the one given for the Hardcover edition (which is in the Goodreads database), this I have shown in one of the photos. I do not know if there is a Hardcover edition existing for this book, but there could be one with the same ISBN.

So, either you can replace the current edition as Paperback, or create a new Paperback edition. Though, I am not sure if you can have two different editions (Paperback and Hardcover) with the same ISBN.

Thanks for adding the missing details.

Michael Korleone (michaelkorleone) | 3881 comments I merged both profiles into Vijay Tendulkar as I couldn't find any books published with his middle name.

Prateek Sazawal (sazawal) | 28 comments Thanks Itsallinyourhead for adding the book. Yes, you are right. This means the Hardcover is not existing or existing with a different ISBN.

Its hardly possible that he had a user profile on Goodreads because he died in 2008, two years later the Goodreads was founded. Well, thanks Michael for merging the two.
