laurel [the suspected bibliophile] (laurelthereader) I wanted to kick this challenge off a little early because we’re rolling into a holiday weekend (in the USA, anyway), and some of these might be hard to find!

This week’s theme is military. Because that’s what Memorial Day is for, right?

Your challenge is to read a YA/NA book with military themes:
1. The MC joins the military/military academy
2. The MC’s family member is in the military
3. The MC is involved in a war but not in the military (refugee, spy, POW, prisoner, etc.)

Fiction OR nonfiction will work, but try to keep it contemporary or historical fiction.

BONUS if the MC is a woman, POC or LGBTQIA+ (or a combo. Heeyyyyo intersectionality!)

Below are some lists that might help:

And here are some YA books about women in the military:

Flygirl by Sherri L. Smith Among the Red Stars by Gwen C. Katz Mare's War by Tanita S. Davis The Road Home (Echo Company, #5) by Ellen Emerson White Freefall by Anna Levine Battle Dress by Amy Efaw Poppy (Poppy, #1) by Mary Hooper Code Name Verity (Code Name Verity, #1) by Elizabeth Wein

Happy reading!

I'll see if I can find another one to read :) Great challenge!
