I'm not sure how many stories may tie into other series. I know there is Vici by Naomi Novik which ties into the Temeraire series but is an origin story (as in 2000 years in the past origin) so should be fine for Temeraire newbies. There is one by Kage Baker that appears to be part of the Lord Ermenwyr series which I'm unfamiliar with.
Must admit it was a bit amusing that when I typed in The Dragon Book in the search the first result was Dance of Dragons (Martin) and the second was The Dragon Reborn (Jordan) and the fourth was His Majesty's Dragon (Novik) and the fifth doesn't even have the words "the", "dragon" or "book" in it...which makes me wonder how that search engine is built (probably involves paying money to get your book to show up higher than the three word exact match when only one word in the title of your book matches...)

Apparently I haven't said "no horror" often enough.

Out of curiosity, where does the Fire Watch story fit in the series timeline? Meaning is it understandable if you haven't read any of the other stories or does it contain spoilers for the other books/stories? Just asking so that if this one wins I could still read the other stories and skip Fire Watch if it ties in too heavily with the actual series.

Fire Watch (1982) was published before any of the Oxford Time Travelers novels (Doomsday Book, 1992), and also occurs chronologically before the other stories as well (in the 2033 timeline, of course.) If you've read the duology Blackout/All Clear, that actually has a small connection back to Fire Watch, both of which involve trips back to WWII London. (I strongly recommend reading them all!)

Reminder: Tomorrow, Saturday is the final day to nominate a Fantasy or Science Fiction story or anthology for our July group read and discussion.

Thank you for the nominations. A poll to select our SF/F Short Story Collection discussion topic for July (starting July 11) is now open. If you're interested in participating in the discussion of one of our nominees, you can vote here for your choice. Please only vote if you plan on participating in the discussion of that work.
This poll will be open through Saturday, June 2.

Reminder: For those who are interested in discussing one of the above nominees with the group, today is the final day to vote for one of our Fantasy or Science Fiction anthologies for our July group read and discussion.

OK, after some negotiation, our Short Story discussion for July will be ...

It can be found free on-line at the publisher's website here, or in the Willis anthology of that name, Fire Watch.
The discussion will begin July 11.

If you choose an individual story, it's very helpful if you can indicate where it can be found, either individually or in some anthology or on a website.
You need not have read the title you are nominating; after all, you'll be reading along. Feel free to say why you are making the nomination, if you care to. If your nomination is selected by the group, you'll be expected to take the lead in the discussion.
We read two different SF/F novels and each month, and one short SF/F work every other month: The short SF/F work may be an individual short story, novelette, or novella; or an anthology or collection of such stories; that discussion starts the 11th of the month. (The others are one "Classic" and one "Contemporary" SF/F novel; those discussion starts on the 1st & 21st of each month, respectively.) You can always check on our upcoming SF/F discussion topics by scrolling down on the Group Homepage to the "Upcoming Reads” section.
You can review past group selections in the "read" section of our Group's BookShelf. If you wish to continue a discussion of one of those past selections, all those discussion topics are still open in our Book Discussions area.
Nominations will be open through Saturday, May 26, when I'll collect the nominees and post a poll so members can choose among them.
