Kate S | 6391 comments Both The Piano Teacher and The Piano Teacher are debut novels. Read an author's debut novel.

Please post questions or suggestions about task 20.4 in this thread.

List: Great Debut Novels

And when I googled debut novels there were several smaller lists. Many titles overlap, but there were also a few here and there that appeared nowhere else.

Rosemary | 3223 comments I think A High Wind in Jamaica will fit here? Richard Hughes GR profile is rather confused, but Fantastic Fiction is clearer: https://www.fantasticfiction.com/h/ri...

Yes, I think you are correct.

-FIRST NOVEL-
and, from Book Riot,
100 must read science fiction fantasy debut novels and short story collections

I appreciate these lists, too!

Sam (theliteraryhooker) | 1008 comments Wondering about The Strange Case of the Alchemist's Daughter by Theodora Goss? She has one other book that's novel-ish (an 80-page two-sided accordion book...) so I'm not sure if this would count as her true debut novel.

We will accept that.

Owlette | 537 comments I can't determine whether the Group Reads pick Ghachar Ghochar by Vivek Shanbhag is a debut novel. He writes in an Indian language and it looks like Ghachar was his first (and only?) novel translated into English. Does it qualify? Thanks. P.S. Enjoying the author's writing style very much.

This does not appear to be his debut, just the first in English.

Owlette | 537 comments I see--thanks.

Ed Lehman | 2538 comments Would The Masquerader by Katherine Cecil Thurston work as her first novel. She has another work The Circle which Wikipedia lists as being published a year earlier...but GR shows as being published in 2005....and it is unclear if it is truly a novel or an incomplete work?

Fixed the pub date for The Circle on GR to 1903. GR used to have a script which would insert the pub date of the oldest edition in its catalog. We got them to stop because it was so often wrong.

Why do you think it is unclear whether this is a complete novel?

hmmmm..... I don't know now.... I saw something while researching it myself that suggested that...but I can't find it now. Thanks.

I think it is going to fit 10.8 anyway.

OK! And thanks for these - I was going to need to look around for those years for my 20th Century Women project.
