evsbooks | 17 comments I don’t think a single review could do this book justice. This was one of the most moving and powerful novels I have ever read.

Anya, Meredith and Nina Whitson are mother and daughters who have never been close in there life. They tried but to them there mother seemed so distant. When their father gets very ill however the glue holding their family together starts to crack.

This is a breathtaking novel that through a Mother’s fairytale takes you back to world war 2 and makes you feel so lucky to be live in the place you do and be able to read this in safety. The epilogue is beautiful and the amount of love in this book makes you cry from happiness and sadness all at the same time.

It centres around love and finding who you are as a person. Especially for the girls who begin to learn who their mother really is and about her life.

When I finished it I had to sit down for a good 15 minutes just to think about what I had read. This is the book that made me love reading again. I Highly recommend it to all.

I absolutely loved this book. The use of fairytales by the mother really demonstrated to me her level of trauma. Such a great review.

Nicole R (drnicoler) | 7919 comments Oooo, did you say fairy tales?!? Maybe an option if that tag wins for June.

I read and really enjoyed Firefly Lane by Hannah and wouldn't mind to getting to more of her books, but, man, her books are emotionally draining!

MargieD2017 | 295 comments Winter Garden was the first book I read by Kristin Hannah. I fell so hard for her style and deep content of both character and subject matter that I have read all but her latest book. Only The Nightingale rises to the same level. While I say this I have enjoyed her works enormously and am never disappointed in her character study. I am glad you enjoyed Winter Garden and I hope that all that you read your great review will be inspired to read it as well.
