C. J. Scurria (goodreadscomcj_scurria) | 4309 comments You have until the 16th of May to post a poem and from the 17th to around the 21st of May, we’ll vote for which one we thought was best!

Please post directly into the topic and not a link. Please don’t use a poem previously used in this group. Only one submission per person is allowed.

Your poem can be of any length!

This week’s topic is: Fire And Water

Thanks goes to C.P. for suggesting the topic!

The rules are pretty loose. You could write a poem about anything that has to do with the subject/photo but it must relate to the topic somehow.

Most of all have fun!

Which is stronger?
Which is the most primal?
Which is me?
Most of the time, I’m water.
I try to be laid back and go with the flow.
But once my anger is aroused, I never let it die!
I can’t forgive and forget.
A new day doesn’t wash away the pain.
If too much happens, I explode!
Just like a volcano.
I can’t stop until my rage is spent.
(Go on, ask me about my day.)
It’s not always like this.
Sometimes, fate is kind.
Something happens to reestablish my faith in humanity.
Children being cute, people remembering their manners, an unexpected gift or show of kindness.
(We’re not irredeemable yet!)

Edward Davies | 1727 comments Title : Fighting Water With Fire
Poet : Edward Davies

You can’t fight water with fire
That’s a ridiculous thing to say
The flames will fizzle, slowly die,
And the water will simply stay

You can’t fight water with fire
It’s a simple premise to grasp
If you don’t understand the concept, well,
All you have to do is ask.

TITLE: You Couldn't Pay Me Enough
GENRE: Political Hard Rock
RATING: PG-13 for swearing, sex references, and political content

VERSE 1
Take the blue pill and everything is chill
Take the red pill and you lose free will
Take the black pill and get your incel thrills
Take the green pill, say goodbye to your bills

CHORUS
You couldn’t pay me enough
To act limousine tough
To have it trust fund rough
You couldn’t pay me enough

VERSE 2
Why would I leave behind this life I’ve built?
Repeating your rhetoric would fill me with guilt
I won’t fire your guns, I won’t take your funds
I won’t drink the Kool-Aid, I’m not fucking afraid
I’d rather be poor than be a puppet on a string
I’d rather have a soul than some material things
I’d rather keep my word to flip the fucking bird
To anybody who wishes to watch me fucking burn

EXTENDED CHORUS 1
You couldn’t pay me enough
To act limousine tough
To have it trust fund rough
You couldn’t pay me enough
Everyone’s got a price
For acting cold as ice
Just for conservative love
You couldn’t pay me enough

VERSE 3
If everyone has a price, yours was pretty low
Lower than a hooker getting ready to blow
Lower than a dead body after death row
Lower than a meal for a hungry ass crow
You let the golden water put out your fire
You were so desperate to be the newest hire
Guns, religion, and xenophobic division
Babies born without the mother’s permission

EXTENDED CHORUS 2
You couldn’t pay me enough
To act limousine tough
To have it trust fund rough
You couldn’t pay me enough
Playing the role of bitch
Made you so goddamn rich
Whatever lullaby you love
You couldn’t pay me enough
