Part of a series?
Anything about the cover?

Was the girl referred to as a babysitter, or a nanny, or an au pair, or something else?

I'm not the OP, but I suggest trying "mother's helper" for the job title as well. That's what we used to call it back in the day. "Nanny" referred to an adult, and "au pair" to a college (or gap year) student, typically. "Mother's helpers" were teens you'd hire for child care after-school, or to take with you to a summer home or on vacation so you'd have a built-in babysitter.
