Amy Hulme | 5 comments I vaguely remember a chapter book my 4th grade teacher read to us (in 1989) about a boy who was the son of a single mom. It involved an overnight camping trip of sorts where he had a snickers bar that he kept nibbling on and rewrapping. He was friends with a quirky, harmless outcast type woman. The cover had a boy on a roof wearing wings he had made himself. Any thoughts??

Amy Hulme | 5 comments It does, except that wasn’t published until 2002. The book I remember was read to me in 1989. But thank you!

Amy Hulme | 5 comments No, but thank you for trying!

Amy Hulme | 5 comments They were a costume that I think he made himself

Emily | 12 comments Maybe it's The Not-Just-Anybody Family by Betsy Byars?

I don't remember the plot very well from when I read this book, but the cover seems to fit what you're looking for, and it was originally published in 1986.
