Alien
question
Which is better, Alien or The Thing?

AlienThe Thing
The Thing lacks a strong female character. Alien, like The Thing, lacks much background on the characters. But The Thing has a head crawling across the floor.

Alien. No contest. It's a visual masterpiece. Dan O'Bannon and H.R. Giger came off Jordorowski's failed Dune experience with vigour and a need to create something powerful. And with Ridley Scott's help, they did.
Sure, The Thing is a special effects wonderland, but Alien is so much better fleshed out. Part of it is the limited cast of characters (I barely remember the names or faces of anyone from The Thing). Part of it is the superb writing, egalitarian leads, and use of sexual imagery.
Not to mention, Alien is unintentionally an LGBT movie. The character of Lambert is transgender. Look it up. ;)
