Rene | 14 comments This book was in my junior high school library in 1969. I recall three specific scenes. The main character looks out her kitchen door and sees what she describes as "buttermilk skies. She crosses herself after making a wish although she was not Catholic. Before leaving the house looks in the mirror and says, missing person's reporter style, "when last scene she was wearing..." It may have been written first person.

SamSpayedPI | 2215 comments Unfortunately, "Buttermilk Sky" is a fairly popular country song, so that's all most of my searches come up with.

The only book I found that hit for both "buttermilk" and "when last seen she was wearing" was Lost, but 1. it was published too late (1980s), 2. "buttermilk" was describing biscuits, and 3. "when last seen she was wearing" was actually in a newspaper article about a missing child, not said by the MC.

I only mention it, really, because even though it's (probably) not the right book, Lost sounds super creepy; I just got it out of the library to read myself.

Rainbowheart | 22638 comments I found some hits for "buttermilk skies" on the Internet Archive, but nothing that looks likely.
